I am willing to bet if they didn't send text messages your thread would be "HSBC charging me fees and interest to use my overdraft without any prior warning!"

I like these texts, especially with Natwest as at the moment they charge £6 plus interest for using an arranged overdraft. So their texts saying I have less than £10 in was useful. Although they sent them a bit late some times, which was annoying when some bills were unexpectedly higher

    Hi

I get these text messages from HSBC when I go into my overdraft "You're now using your arranged overdraft. To avoid arranged overdraft interest your account must be in credit by 23.45 today" just went into my o/d at 10pm. It's just the way the textes say pay money into your bank before you get the charges at 23.45 which could make people panic. Also it doesn't say what the charges will be?

Does anyone else get these awful text messages?

Hi JJ thanks for your reply,

Maybe factual but it's still a threat by saying your account needs to be in credit by middnight or you will be charged. Some people could get anxiety from these text messages, that's all I'm saying.

I will certainly ask them to turn it off & find out how much I will be charged for being in my ARRANGED o/d
My bank also texts me when I touch zero! Guess what, It allows me to transfer from my deposit account on their app to avoid any charges! And I am not threatened.

Now you are here, how about thinking about managing your money better to save yourself from further teardrops?

Could people please stop attacking the OP. For all we know, they may have an illness.

Is it not rude to assume someone has an illness with very little evidence of that mystery illness?

:eek:HSBC are threatening me too with texts.

Well they say they will be texting me if I go overdrawn in the future or something like that...

I wish they'd sent me one a few months back when I was a bit careless and dipped into my agreed overdraft by mistake. It cost me 16p. Would be nearer 40p under the new rates I think

There is nothing rude about leaving the possibility open that somebody is ill. There is everything wrong with ridiculing someone because they say they might suffer from anxiety.

I’m really beginning to feel sorry for banks! I quite agree with those saying that the HSBC texts are entirely reasonable. Then Hazzanet complaining at receiving texts about being close to being overdrawn when £3 in credit (and with £3 in fees due)... I think most people would argue that is very close to being overdrawn. I wonder how quickly many would complain about finding they are overdrawn and charged fees without getting a warning from the bank? “The bank didn’t even bother to send me a text!” I can hear it now...

Whilst banks are not high on my list of favorite people, I too received a text from the Halifax early in Jan. Less than £50 in my account with a fairly (for me) large amount due out in a few days, but also an even larger amount due in the next day. Did I throw a wobbler, have a panic attack? No of course not. Note to self - check that amount does reach my account tomorrow. If you keep on top of your financial affairs these things are just a heads up for things you already know. If you don't already know then it is time you put your affairs in order (or closed your joint account!).

Whatever you do, don't pay your loan off early and start a accumulating money in your savings account otherwise you get a real human leaving voice mail demanding you call them back for an important discussion about your financial health and services which are available to you.

I think the people who may suffer anxiety from the overdraft warning messages are the ones who know but don't have the funds to quickly transfer and don't want to be reminded of next month's charges.
