Like iv said before, iv been on the classic tariff since it started, and iv never had to top up every 6 months ,ever, only send a text or make a call every 6 months to keep sim active. i honestly wouldnt worry. But if you want to change, three do the same tariff as the 02 classic, credit never expires, and you only have to top up when your credit has gone. You have to make a text or call every 6 months to keep it active0

I've just had a look around the o2 forum and there are a few posts about this and the general consensus is that the reality is as you describe thought there is a requirement to top up at least once every 999 days. o2 are not inclined to change the misleading wording and the cynical (and reasonable take) is that they want to induce customers to top up more frequently than is strictly necessary. There also seems to be an inconsistency in the advice given via live chat, i.e. "yes, that's right" or "no, don't worry as long as you call or text every 6 months".
I'm sure we'll hear about it on here if o2 do suddenly start pulling the plug on people! I'll just keep a watching brief having recently topped up.
Personally, if it became necessary, I'd go down the route of the cheapest viable bolt on every 6 months to maintain the service. That's factoring in the 10% back on all top ups, 14 days free credit virtually every time I do top up and my usage of Priority offers, rather than switch elsewhere.0 -

Thanks, think that I will probably also wait and see what happens. It has gone along very nicely for the past couple of years and it is only since the Classic PAYG has ceased for new customers that this has come up.
Do you think O2 would give any warning if they were to implement this before actually disconnecting you? At least then you would have the chance to buy a bolt on. My OH's phone has never had a top up in the past two years - it is still running on the original £10 that came with the phone (as I said before nearly £5 left).
That is interesting about the online chat giving different answers; you would think they would know the current rules.
With regard to bolt ons, how do you actually get them? I usually just buy a £10 voucher from a shop to add credit to my own phone (also on Classic PAYG).Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

It's been a source of queries for longer than that but obviously not been an issue in reality. The watching brief is to see if that changes at all following the withdrawal to new customers. I suspect it won't and all will be fine but I'll see if that seems to have changed in a few months time.

See link here for bolt ons, I'd just text to request one. For instance, on a day when you knew you needed to make a couple of calls you could pay £1 for 50 minutes of calls to use that day. I used to top up at cash machines until that facilty was withdrawn. I'd recommend the online top up now rather than faffing about in the shops. No need to register, just have your number and debit/credit card to hand and it's done in a couple of minutes.
