But if you hardly ever need to use it, that is just unfair. It is purely for emergencies:(Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
We were on O2 Original PAYG for many years, but October 2018 on advice from the O2 shop when we bought new phones we changed to Classic, because it was cheaper by far but the "no need for regular top-up and no loss of credit providing you make 1 chargeable use of the phone every 6 months" was unchanged. As said above, all it takes is 1 phone call or text message every 6 months to keep the phone and credit live - not too difficult even for very occasional users like us!0

I have it in writing from the o2 exec office that the T&C's are wrong.
Is that recent (after the tariff became unavailable to new customers) or was it prior to that? I suppose I'm just suspicious of them starting to apply the term (which is prominently stated on the website) once we get to 6 months beyond the change!
One thing that did occur to me, should it ever become the case that this term is applied, is that the cheapest way round it would be to buy a one-off "snacking" bolt on every 6 months where you don't need to top up. There are a couple that only cost £1 for 50mb of data or 50 minutes of calltime (one day validity).
Hopefully it will remain unnecessary to do that but worth bearing in mind just in case.0 -
Bit of confusion over having to top up, and having to make a paid call.0

Get a Co-op sim - no need to top up regularly, just make a phone call or text once every six months.
Costs are quite good for emergency purposes, 2p/text 4p/min to other Co-op phones otherwise it's 4p and 8p respectively
Myself and my wife top up about £15/yr - and it piggybacks on EE/T-Mobile0 -
Once every 5½ months to make sure it's still working is hardly onerous or unfair.
He does use it - probably a couple of times a month -that is not the problem.
My concern is if 02 decide to implement the rule that you have to top up with £10 every six months.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

...or buy a bolt on (see my previous post). So, whilst it would be sub-optimum and worse than the current situation, it wouldn't be as drastic as having to top up twice a year if you had no need to.
"If you don't top up, or add a Bolt On at least once in any six month period, your mobile will be disconnected and you'll lose any credit on your account. If you want to be reconnected you'll be given a new mobile number."

Have just spent over half an hour on online chat trying to get some clarification and they say it is true and that you do have to top up every six months or add a bolt on:(
So I might add the £1 bolt on and try and use up as much of the remaining credit as possible, then move to one of the other providers that have been recommended on here.
Such a shame though, I thought this tariff was fantastic.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0
