Motorhome left parked on road

I doubt anything can be done but its always worth asking the question.

I live in a row of old terraces the kind where people have to park on the road and there is only just enough room for cars to get through the middle of the road.

Someone has parked a motor home which has not moved for weeks (i don't suppose it will until the summer when its needed for just a couple of weeks in the year).

This is taking up at least 4 parking spaces (two where its parked and two on the opposite side as no one can park there as cars would not be able to get through the gap) in a road where there is never enough room anyway.

I know that people have the right to park anywhere on a road and I never complain if I can't park outside my house, its the downfall of living in a terrace. But it seems unfair that you can leave a vehicle that isn't even being used just left there when others need that space for vehicles they use daily. I am lucky its not outside my house I feel for those that it is looking out of their window every day at it.

  • If it's taxed and insured then unless there's a covenant or bye law saying they can't park there, then they've as much right as you to do so.

Yes I thought that was probably the case.

So I could buy a motorhome and park it somewhere outside a random persons house and just leave it there all year to save me the cost of storage for it?

    It seems wrong.

It would be a shame if someone threw birdseed over it on a regular basis ...

What's wrong about parking a motor vehicle on a road?

Nothing illegally wrong about it I understand that

But how would you like it if it meant you and your neighbours now sometimes have to park on another street as its taking up valuable parking spaces. Yes I appreciate these are the issues with terrace housing unfortunately we can't all afford to live somewhere which has a drive. Someone else down our street owns a van I have no issue with them taking up more than one car space they use the van regularly its their everyday means of transport. It irks when a vehicle just sits there for months on end using the road as storage.

Even if I did own a house with a drive I'd still be annoyed if someone decided to park and leave a large motorhome outside my house never moving it.

    Are you sure about that?

(Just asking in the same way that you usually do).

You could always ask the council about a traffic order, or talk to the local community police, but other than having a word with the owner or putting a traffic order in place (banning anything bigger than a van from parking), if it's taxed and has an MOT, and isn't obstructing anything, then it's allowed to be there.

Any idea who owns it? Not one of the neighbours? You could always see if they'd move it to the end oit of the way a biy.

No different to a van or a 7 series sized car parking there. Nimbyism.

I would alert the council and keep on doing so until something is done, nothing ventured, nothing gained

Tell council what? He doesn't like it.

Should I tell them I don't like paying council tax, will they let me off?
