Bobbi, think it's fair to say that insurance companies are happier when you have a dashcam but they don't generally discount premiums as it's pretty much impossible to police. There are some brokers e.g. Sure Thing, who offered their own dashcam, linked to special deals, but not really sure this has ever taken off. Personally and for your own piece of mind I think it's well worth doing and is not expensive.
Axa and Swiftcover do offer a discount of 10 to 12.5%

But no insurer beats Adrian Flux , which offers a 15% discount for having a dashcam.

Don't some insurers at least require that it be "professionally installed"? Sticking it on the windscreen yourself and duct taping the cable to the A pillar won't cut it. That adds extra cost (though not a huge amount) and might not be an option for some cars.

I really can't see why a dashcam would reduce insurance, given that it's only useful if you have an accident. And you're not supposed to be doing that as we're all perfect drivers.

I also don't think dashcam enabled drivers are that much safer, given they can just delete the evidence...

I have a dashcam front and back, with parking mode. Paid for itself when it recorded the "lady" who hit my car. She got out examined damage then drove off.

I would not declare I had this even if I was offered a discount.

What would happen if and when you had an accident and dashcam was not working or it showed you were at fault or 1 or 2 mph above speed limit etc.

It doesn't matter how good a driver you (think you) are, you can still be hit by someone else. If you're involved in an incident with a crash for cash scammer, opportunistic fraudster, or the like, then dashcam footage is very strong evidence of what really happened. Many crash-for-scam scammers have not only had their fraud stopped but have been criminally convicted for it on the basis of dashcam footage showing the truth.
  • I'm surprised insurers take dash cam footage as evidence as with video editing you can make it show anything you like. Also there are laws that prevent a house-based cctv filming the pavement/highway so why is it permitted for a dash-cam?

Adrian flux are ok, used them for 3 years, they have very prohibitive terms such as if needing to change car or address, their admin charges are very high

plus their reviews don't seem all that god, thankfully not need to claim from them.

Moved to someone else who don't charge for admin and were slightly cheaper too

Seems strange to criticise Adrian Flux after being covered by them for THREE years ??
In any case, I was answering the original question on this thread about what company makes car insurance cheaper if dashcams are attached
and Adrian Flux is the answer to the thread question. Quite straightforward.
