I do have a tenancy agreement which the benefits office have. What advice would people give should i speak to a solicitor of some sort for answers? ultimately i can't register at partners i don't know her well enough etc and a fairly new partner so i just want to be able to do it on the house i own. I don't see why i am punished for keeping a roof over my mums head and being a good son.

    Thanks
  • Putting yourself on the electoral register should not affect anything you mention in your original post. Use the address of the house you own. Council tax and voter registration are two different things - different databases.

i have rang the council if i put myself down my mum loses 25% council tax and nearly all housing benefit because i earn £40k. So i am snookered. Looks like i will never get credit.

This is what I do not understand. If you register to vote from your mothers home, then why would that impact her council tax or housing benefit. You won't be living there... So it wouldn't matter... That is how I interpret the rules...but I am no expert lol

    I love my job

Because by registering i am saying i live there. Should be allowed to appeal but they said thats how it is. I think with my driving licence, passport. banks stats every ID i have at that address when i re mortgage i should be able to get around it. As for the mortgage i thought i would be owed money by the goverment for upkeep of the property all expenses i have with it but seems i should be paying some kind of tax. I certainly wont tell them if it means i lose out for helping a 70 year old stay housed.

Why not just register to vote at your girlfriends address and change the address for your licence etc.

But then she'd lose her 25% Council Tax discount?

And it's that attitude that has got you where you are. Why on earth would the Government owe you money for the upkeep of your own home?

You claiming some sort of nomadic lifestyle to avoid paying council tax has come back to bite ypu on the proverbial.

when you remortgage, how do you declare your situation
residential mortgage for your own home that you live in?
regulated BTL mortgage for a property your mother lives in and you have no fixed abode?
