Cannot register on Votor roll to improve credit? i can't?

Hi, i have been in a DMP for some time and have 5 defaults (4 of which drop off in July). I am trying to improve my credit score asap. I have a mortgage on a property that my mum lives in (who claims housing benefit) which is all above board. All my documents driving licence/passport/bank statements etc are in my mum's address as i own the property. I work away all week and stay in friends houses and at weekends my partners house so i am not registered anywhere for council tax. I want to register at my mums house (that i own) but how will this effect her housing benefit and will i be chased for all the years i have never paid any? simple fact is i just want to register to improve my credit score. If it means i have to pay some towards the council tax so be it. Thank you for any advice

You could open a whole can of worms here....and not just housing benefit/council tax.

If your mum is getting housing benefit that suggests she is paying rent......are you declaring this? Does your mortgage company you are effectively letting the property.

Simple fact is you don't live in the house so why would you say you are?

Register everything at your partners house.

Hi, the mortgage is £385 per month and is interest only and i receive £385 per month. The housing are ok with it. No the mortgage company doesnt know i have my mum in it.

Will the council tax come after me for years of money i am 38 and never paid it. But ive never had a fixed abode. I could register at partners but if it means i am getting a huge bill i wont bother!

Its not your credit score your trying to improve but your history, your score is only seen by you, the history is whats important.

The rules have changed regards the deductability of interest for rental income. Seems a coincidence that interest is exactly same as rent.......

Why would you get a huge bill if you registered at partners house?

Listen it is no coincidence it is £385 but fluctuates around £400 it follows the Libor rate interest only. My mum get around £87 per week so it is fine.

if i have never paid council tax then suddenly register do they not ask were i have been for all these years. I am after some help not a argument etc.

I just simply want to be credit worthy

I believe that everyone is liable to pay their Council Tax. I think you should register from your partners address.

Regardless of how meaningless a 'credit score' is, why do you think that paying council tax will negatively impact on the way you are viewed by lenders? How is that connected to you putting your name on the Electoral Register?

I am under impression that if not on votor roll it is almost impossible to re-mortgage or get a car lease etc etc

If his partner is claiming a single person discount & his credit file might show that he's previously applied for credit saying he is living there https://www.experian.co.uk/identity-and-fraud/public-sector/single-person-discount-verification.html and they decide to check.

Being on the electoral roll isn't magic, you can't be of no fixed abode so you don't pay council tax and nobody can pin you down to where live but somehow get the benefit of lenders being able to pin you down to where you live.

Lots of people don't pay council tax, because only one person in a household pays it. You could have been staying in a B&B for example. If you stayed with someone and they claimed single person discount then it can get really tricky. There is no fixed definition of where you "live" but they'll tend to look at where you told your GP and financial institutions where you live. It's very difficult to not live anywhere.

I don't think they are actually that pro-active, they mostly work from tip offs or people who incriminate themselves.

Currently your mum is liable to pay the council tax, since she's the one living there. If she's alone she'll get the single-occupier discount, and if she's on benefits she'll also get council tax support.

You will probably be OK to register to vote, on the basis you have a connection to that address, even though you don't live there. If you have a proper tenancy agreement with your mum (which she needs to be allowed to claim housing benefit!) that helps clarify that you just use it as a correspondence address.

But I think you might be better off making your "official" address your partner's. Even though you're elsewhere in the week due to work, if you're there every weekend it's reasonable to call it your home address.

It's not just reasonable, it's how they would interpret it.

My partner is a member of the forces/works away and only comes home occasionally.

No - This property will still be deemed as their sole/main residence because there is an intention to return to the property.
