Worst bank? Well I went to my local food bank recently and all they gave me was a German sausage.

Ive been with NatWest since I was 12... they're not great tbh and had a few issues with them over the years. Ive always stayed because of my overdraft but that'll be paid off before April then ill probably move elsewhere and stop using it.

My halifax is better as it at least gives cash back rewards.

I'd vote for Danske Bank, simply because they have a reward account that offers £5 a month after the fee but to become a new member you have to live in NI. As much as I love chasing rewards, I can't imagine Mrs Abz would be thrilled to learn we are moving to NI to get our hands on a combined £120 a year!

    Nat West are quite bad.

Also, First Direct who are supposed to be good service (which when you need to phone them they generally are). However for me the service is the whole package which includes the initial set up. Which there were just far too many hoops to jump through & red tape, it was a right pain in the backside. I reckon I've spent about £10 in phone calls sorting stuff which could've been easily avoided. So for me they're nowhere near the best. Ive heard other HSBC banks are the same though.

My first and last product with HSBC

You have to use a mobile online banking app and the activation just doesn't work, as such I have given upon it and just use telephone banking now. luckily It's only to check the balance.

I find customer service difficult to understand and got transferred to a closed department which preceded to cut me off (how nice).

Ulster bank. All I had was a help to buy ISA, the interest rate was very good, but everything else was a chore.

To even close it I had to go into a branch (it was opened online) who then sent a letter to a different branch who eventually closed it. Phone support was also crap.

I am now with Danske Bank who have been excellent. £5 reward every month, good online banking and app, excellent customer service and a very smooth mortgage process. Highly recommend.

So far HSBC for switching to. I've had every conceivable letter from them you could imagine, some yes including stuff like the debit card and pin number and some letters duplicated. What I haven't received is my (they said they've sent it twice) account activation code/number. All sorted now with a rather long and convoluted phone conversation, I was passed from one person to another and at one point I was unsure I was still actually talking to someone at the banks HQ, just a weird feeling I had.
They then promised to send all the stuff I was missing, what's the point I've set the security up via phone??

On the other hand FD are a dream to talk to, my main bank for many many years, for saying they are part of the above said bank is unreal.

Can't say there was a "worst" one, but HSBC have been the ones which have consistently impressed me the least.

Long winded account opening procedure with far too much paperwork posted back and forth the first time I used them, and the online facilities look outdated with convoluted and (IMHO) overzealous security requirements.

I'm currently on my second "new customer" account opening with them, (Only for the £175 bribe), and they are the only bank out of 8 switches over 7 banks in the last 5 years who have required me to prove my income (despite me already having other credit accounts with them) and what's more, they also require me to physically visit a branch to prove this.

So, in my attempts to do this I noticed my old local branch...... was shut down! The next nearest branch..... was shut down!
The nearest branch which hasn't been shut down (and which I was asked to attend to provde paper proof of my FULL TIME income) is only open from 9.30-3.30 Monday-Friday and is closed on Saturdays and Sundays!

The 5th nearest branch which I eventially had to visit was run down and understaffed. If it wasn't for the self service machined dropped into the middle of the branch, you could have thought you had been transported to the early 1990's!
    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

How long did you have between closing and opening again to get the reward?
