  • Have you thought of using a Virtual Landline Number? They are way cheaper and can be beneficial when you go abroad...
Packages from £5.95 a month. That's the one I am on and it works perfectly for me.

I make about 10 mins phone calls a day, about 20 texts, go online for shopping or Spotify, only about an hour tops. I don't download movies or watch Netflix etc on my phone.

Can anyone tell me if I would be better just getting a Pay as You Go or would it be better to get a really cheap contract. Some seem to give quite a lot for £10 but if, in reality, I'm only using a couple of quid a month, what's the point in getting a contract?
As others have said, a monthly contract is the best choice.
Your cheapest PAYG option would be Three at 3p/min for calls, 2p/text, 1p/MB.
10 minutes of calls = 30p, 20 texts = 40p, plus some data, so PAYG would be more than 70p/day, probably £20-30 per month. You should be able to get a SIM only contract that covers your stated usage for nearer £5 than £10.
  • I'm writing my experiences. I prefer the PAYG model, the last decades I had no problems with this model, although I phone regularly or have to be reachable. When I lived in another region of Lower Saxony, I tested a contract model, where I got a laptop with a mobile phone contract. I'm happy I cancelled the contract after 24 months. I wasn't happy with the billing, there were often mistakes and I felt not comfortable with a contract.
For the internet access I use PAYG model as well and I'm quite happy with it.
I buy a certain data volume for the whole month and have to economize with it. I can check the used volume online in a client portal, the same where I top up new sums. I have no debts with this model.

It would appear that the Three 321 option is no longer available to new customers, except perhaps if you pick up a SIM somewhere other than Three. It is speculated that existing customers will be able to remain on this PAYG tariff. Time will tell.
