If you hadn't noticed it then you would be none the wiser of the correction. Just let it go, haven't lost anything.

You are now mift that they spotted it and corrected their original mistake. so mift that you think you should complain and blag compensation

A bit off-topic but surely it's "miffed"? I think "mift" is something mentioned in the stage directions for the scene with the witches in Macbeth? ;)

MIFT stands for Manually Initiated Funds Transfer which is exactly what happened so yes, the OP was MIFT.
  • I haven't read most recent comments but it was a basic thing of GDPR a bit. I use my PIN to verify me to make a withdrawal or deposit, so them going into my account to make albeit corrections for things they did wrong means that it is without my permission or verification. I know that Santander calls to notify that something has been done wrong and to confirm recent transactions to see if what happened was accurate or not. I wasn't present for them going into my account for data protection and audit trail purposes. Moving my money about without me knowing isn't good practise. Legally they have to say if they are altering the status of my account transactions.

Not here for the keyboard warriors above (if any). Anyway, thanks to chose to responded nicely and constructively.

You will find that it is covered in the T/C.
As bank staff we can view any account we have a valid reason to. Finding a payment error would be a valid reason.
On your basis you would never get a security check' or be contacted by the bank. As they need access to your account for contact details.

It's nice that they do, but they don't have to. See your Santander T&Cs, condition 7.4(c) on page 16...
If we have incorrectly credited any payment to your account, we will take the money back out of your account. We do not need your permission to do so.
Presumably TSB have a similar condition. You may wish to check before going in all guns blazing?

Interesting. Under which specific law please?

I knew you'd pick me up on that. I said 'corrections' on purpose to see if you would and you did, thanks for proving me right!
Claiming to make deliberate errors in order to be proved right. Mmm.

It's not a GDPR issue and they don't need permission to go into their accounts (they own the account, not you.)

Brilliant but they don't need you to confirm that what happened is accurate if the staff member can confirm they made a mistake.

No, they really don't need to do anything of the sort, and frankly if they did I wouldn't be surprised if you were moaning about them contacting you over the slightest mistake instead of just getting on with fixing it. You'd probably be after compo for that too.

Rough translation: "If you didn't tell me what I wanted to hear, get stuffed."
