Effectively it gives someone in the branch the power to just go into your account and start withdrawing from it.

With the slight issue that banks' internal audit functions are extremely good at spotting this sort of thing, which would be amongst the dumbest frauds imaginable, and that anyone who had this happen to them would see it on their statement anyway.

I guess the problem with TSB and to a certain extent all high street banks are that they have legacy systems that don't really allow notifications as such - if that is what you are asking for

I suppose the only way they could 'notify' you other than updating your statement is to send you a letter or to call you up - neither of which which is likely to happen given the number of customers they have

if you truly want notifications instantly of any transactions on your account to avoid you having to look each day at your statement then you should really bank with one of the new banks such as monzo where everything is notified in real time

Compo is for financial loss and related distress. There was no financial loss in this case.
Since when has that stopped posters on here?

As someone that has to ring people that have made a gain due to a error.

It amazing how they never respond... Yet are on the phone the same day when you reverse the error.. Moaning that they had not been told.

So we now have permission to simply adjust the account if they have not responded in a day.

Well you noticed that you were £50 up, so why not call and advise the error?

Why cash over the counter as well?

I asked for £50 withdrawal, accepted it on their machine to authorise it, and she counted and handed me £50. However, she ran it through as a cash deposit and it shows up as such. The next day, she reversed the transaction, and then deducted the actual £50, so it was correct. I wasn't actually £50 up.

Counters deal in cash, not sure what the question is there. But it doesn't need more discussion. Thanks.

    Complain about what?
Your cash paid in was correctly credited to your account on day 1.
On day 2, It appears that in error a withdrawal of £50 (which may be totally unconnected to the amount paid in on day 1) was shown and subsequently corrected on the same day by a credit for £50. I have no idea if the transactions are timed but this correction may well have been immediate.
Unless somehow this has caused you some inconvenience or financial loss, I can't see that you have anything whatsoever to complain about.

    Wasn't it a counter withdrawal?
  • Yes, I made a withdrawal but she wrongly processed it as a deposit. Thank you for reading it properly!

I got fed up with TSB:
    • Strange policy regarding change of address needing to be notified in branch in person (the only organisation out of over 50 that needed that, including about 30 financial ones)
    • Website/ system upgrade nonsense
    • No reply to complaint
I left and won't ever go back. My morals even got the better of the 3% bribe rate!

Vote with your feet. There are better banks out there.
  • I didn't say they were hiding anything, I'm saying that I think they should say if they are going to make corrections. Who's to say I didn't actually deposit £50 or someone didn't mean to put £10 in my account? I just think they should notify you of changes.

I'm not sure about the first time which branch it was done in, a cashier clearly typed one wrong number in the account number. I know which branch was the second time.
They did, which is how you know about it.
