Do you eat at the table?

Only eat at the table if friends or family are round, but do sit at the table lots playing music, chatting and drinking. We'll spend all day there on a Sat then go sit on the sofa to eat

I don't like sitting round tables for more than 5 minutes because .... the chairs are uncomfortable because I have short legs.
I'm the height of a 10 year old, so have to sit right forward for my toes to reach the ground... and right on the edge for my feet to be flat on the floor. Not comfortable... at all.0 -
We always eat at the dining room table, all meals even though the children have left home and it is only two of us.It's a large solid wood table so only use placemats, no tablecloth. Do not have a sideboard either. The dining room has the table, 4 chairs and a lamp, no other furniture.
Could never envisage eating off my lap in front of the TV!0 -

Don't buy a table
Ha ha!! You've described our house!!
Formal dining room, sideboard, "best" stuff.
We do eat at it every day though...and we make sure we use all our best stuff! How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)0 -
OH and I decided when we moved in together that we'd eat our meals at the table - and prioritised buying a table over a sofa amongst other things.
Since buying our house, we do try to eat at the table, but it's very cold in the conservatory at the moment and the heater takes a while to kick in. If it's unbearable, we'll eat stood up in the kitchen or if it's a relatively small/dry meal, at our computer desks.
Recently, we stayed with a family member and ate on the sofa (watching TV) for a week. I was surprised at how awkward it felt and how much I disliked it, because it was the norm growing up. To me, eating at the table allows me to be mindful and enjoy my food more, but it also encourages us to have a proper conversation without any distractions. Usually there are computer monitors between us, or we're focused on watching TV!
ETA, as far as 'best stuff' goes - I used to keep things for best, but I decided life was too short, and I don't want duplicates of everything, so now I buy/use 'best' for every day.

Don't buy a table
This is good advice, I have a lovely table, but nobody eats at it because it’s main function is to store post, keys, handbags, tissues, pens, books and other miscellaneous items.0 -
Breakfast - generally sofa
Lunch - 50/50, when I am home, depending on what it is.
Evening meal - generally at the kitchen table, except pizza & TV/film night on Fridays.0 -

Mine don't sit flat on the floor either (just under 5'2). I tend to put one leg up on the chair next to me and put the other back under my chair so I'm on my toes on it. Sometimes I'll put both legs up either side, but usually one at a time and alternate them lol.
I feel your pain!2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
Have a large kitchen so always at the kitchen table. Dining room had been turned into a second living room as was too formal for us.....0
