You are correct of course but I much prefer Lanzarote to Majorca. Each to his/her own.0 -

Ok, I see but as you highlighted my comment regarding the tax being per person, I thought you were correcting me!
Not at all.
Just adding additional information.
The OP may wish to consider a holiday in Greece as the tourist tax is per room rather than per person.
It's based on the accommodation rating - the higher the accommodation rating, the more you pay.0 -
Could always try Bhutan:)0

As is the case in the Balearics. It's based on the accommodation rating - the higher the accommodation rating, the more you pay.0 -

Yes. My sister paid it last year in Majorca.
I was talking specifically about Greece in the post you quoted but I imagine it's the same in lots of countries that charge it.0 -

From reports I've read they are seriously considering imposing restrictions on the number of tourists allowed each year.Additionally, the OP maybe interested to know that at the present time The Canary Islands do not impose a tourist tax
Too many arriving annually and having a negative impact on the ecology etc.
I think (may be wrong) that the Canaries are divided into two separate governmental island groups, not sure how that plays out if they are not in general broad agreement on the issue.0 -
This thread is a little like one on being 'scammed' abroad. The best scams go completely unnoticed.
Some people are adamant they've never ever been scammed, but the 'sting' is in the detail or rather the lack of it. Exactly the same with any taxes abroad.
Some countries are upfront about their added extras, but others aren't. It's the countries that hide those little extras that seem to get away with it.0 -
I am unconcerned that you cannot believe it.I can't believe you've backed out of a holiday 'on principle' because of a tax imposed by the country you're visiting.
I was merely surprised when I had to tick the box to agree to this charge, after going through all the booking process.
I have been going abroad for almost 40 years and have not had to pay.
It may previously have been included in the price. It would have been acceptable at that point, before completing the full booking details.
I have now found another holiday and saved £500 and am aware of this Tourist Tax.
Having been to mainland Spain for the past four years, we have never paid or been asked to pay it. Seems that to date, they do not charge on the mainland.
As members of this money saving forum, I feel I can post what ever I choose to.
Made me laugh about the tea bag bit!
This site is perfect for the 'tighter' sort of people!Keep on trucking!0
