The people iiving on the new bovis development in my locality like their homes. Yes they have a few snagging issues but they are being dealt with promptly. The houses look nice

If any of the houses are already built and lived in where you are looking, the best thing you can do is ask the people who are living there what they think of the property/company. A lot of things depend on how good the manager of the estate you are interested in. The quality of one Bovis estate can be very different to one a few miles down the road because of this.0

Marvel1 said:I find most people nare most likely to leave a bad experience review than a good one.
I remember one about a restaurant visit, special occasion date for something, 3 rd year running visit, left a bad review based on recent visit, did note they had a excellent visit last 2 times. Someone commented and quite rightly - the poster never bothered to leave an excellent review on last 2 visits but did for the bad latest one.0 -
pepita said:Thanks for all your replies. I am just considering new build to use the Help to Buy scheme.
I find that most of the builders have maintenance charges even buying a house not a flat.
One of them that didn't have was Bovis (also David Wilson and Taylor Wimpey in some of their sites not all?! ) which is another positive node to consider the Bovis house.
A quick google search shows that 2016-2018 they were "buying" 5* reviews on the Home Builders Federation customer satisfaction survey, which it makes me think that might be something that they are trying to hide? hence asking if anyone experienced it.
My other option is buy a second hand/not new build but I will have to save a bit longer for the deposit if using this option.
The idea to be ready to move in and not have to think on DIY jobs/carpet, bathroom, kitchen updates... to be honest it's making New Builds quite attractive. Even though there will always be some snags to take care of.
It's a really important decision so I am trying to make a conscious decision and weight out all the options.
Thanks for all your answer again, much appreciated!
Hi, how did you get on in the end?
We joined the shared ownership scheme with a David Wilson property & we've found many defects with the house & garden, too many to mention!
Long story short, stay well clear of these properties, we thought they were premium builds but 2nd rate at best & not sure if they operate a quality control department. We have built our own property before & words fail me.

New house builds are increasingly coming with more defects thats a fact, however so long as they are put right in a timely manner then it should not be an issue. However they also come with a premium and in this market and a reported figure of 856ooo claiming unemployment today plus Lloyds putting aside 1.3 billion for 1st quarter bad debts then you may find you lose a lot short term 18monts or so. Personally I would look for older, bigger garden and driveways etc.34 Years experience as company Director in Financial services1

We bought our Dream Home from Bovis but it has turned out to be a nightmare!
We bought our "premium" property in June 2019 and it has had so many fundamental build defects! From incorrectly wired hot water tank that bypassed the thermostat causing the water temperature to be higher than the point of scalding, to having weak mortar whereby all the mortar to half the height of the house has had to be removed, the flooring upstairs has bodged noggins, not been glue or affixed and the boards fall short of ending on the joists. The stairs have not been installed properly. The patio was built too close to the house causing water ingress and damaging the Amtico flooring which has now been up for over a year and these are just but a few of the defects. Bovis employ delaying tactics, take months to book work in, 18 months from first reporting the weak mortar and it is still in progress, over a year our kitchen flooring has been up and still we don't have a date when it will be rectified. They do not monitor their contractors and even when we have highlighted to them that the contractors are not working to HSE regulations they have repeatedly failed to do anything about it. They have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to our property and do nothing but argue about rectifying. I could go on for hours listing the hundreds of snags and defects we have encountered in this "premium" property

A friend used to be a 'snagger' for Bovis homes for many years. He told me he'd never buy one based on his experiences of fixing them.0
