Now Broadband

  • I joined NOW TV last year. The actual broadband and calls are okay, a few instances of no broadband but nothing major. We are on the Super Fibre package which works okay for us. We have at least ten devices hooked up to it (phones/computers/tablets) and don't have any issues with it.

However, NOW TV's customer service is absolutely the worst I've ever come across, bar none. The staff are really unpleasant and blame the customer at all times and will do nothing to help with problems, except fob you off with dreadful excuses.

The biggest issue I had was when I wanted to transfer the service over to a new home. They did not tell me that the service at the old property would be terminated the day after I rang them to switch the service (ten days before I was due to get the keys to the new house) so I had no internet for ten days. I know, first world problem but incredibly inconvenient as I do all of my banking, etc., online. If that wasn't an issue enough, they also decided to change my telephone number. For absolutely no reason whatsoever. When I complained about the phone number change I was basically told "tough". The attitude of the CS department was just awful.

I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Ever. Sometimes it's worth paying a bit more, knowing that the more expensive alternatives have better customer service.

We've had differing experiences obviously as I'd found NowTV very easy to talk to with phone calls that never last more than a few minutes. I've actually found them quicker to answer than Sky usually do as well.

I looked at Sky's offer as they do fast fibre which was the same speed as Super fibre on NOW broadband. I was with Sky on the 40/10 speed and they upgraded me to 80/20 speed free as the broadband system was upgraded but when I went over to NOW I paid an extra £5 for higher speed.

With Sky's offer now it mentioned that a customer must have left Sky 12 or more months ago to get the offer but I left 11 months and a few days so that rules me out.

It is still a good offer though.

No chance of the higher fibre speeds as we are overhead wiring only, I doubt that fibre to our premises will be available for many years. We could cancel our NOW contract as we never get the guaranteed 36mbps but 28mbps is sufficient for our needs, incidentally NOW confirmed they were unable to reach the speeds they guarantee when we first switched even after we'd been through the usual fault testing routine.

Mine doesn’t renew until November but if I knew this was going to happen I wouldn’t of gone with NOW in the first place!!

What exactly didn't they 'know'? That their discounted offer had an end date and the price would go up unless they contacted them?

But why should customers have to renegotiate contracts, don't the suppliers make sufficient income from what was previously offered ? If the answer to that is no then are the suppliers hoping existing customers will just roll over and accept the new price ? then make even more money from the vulnerable.

Because we live in a democratic society which is actually business led. They get new customers with decent looking short(relatively) term deals which could be loss leading for them but they'll get it back long term from the people who don't check every 12/18/24 months for better deals.

The only way around that that I can see is for the government to enforce a fixed price (on everything) or nationalise all companies but then we'd be a socialist or communist society and that's a failed experiment.

I don't know why you bring the 'vulnerable' into this as it's usually just the lazy or don't care people that end up paying full price. For the others there's sites like this one and people like you to point people in the right direction.

Unfortunately there are many older people who never use these types of Forums so accept whatever is offered them, I would call these people Vulnerable.
