Well, another day, another PM gone
. Its crazy that this sort of chaos is the new normal. Remember in 2010 when a coalition was the craziest thing to ever happen in British politics? And who knows what the next PM's priorities will be? Sunak is bookies favourite, and he wanted to keep the National Insurance rise (which I agree with). However, the cut is about the only thing left of Truss's mini budget which affects me, and while I think the NHS and social care need the money, it would be useful to actually have some certainty about what's going to happen.
Thanks for your lovely comments @SuzeQStan! I'm glad you think this diary is positive - sometimes I feel like all I do is moan on here, so its good to hear it cheers you up!
Happy Thursday to you @Deni_debt-free_dreamer. While technically I could go into the office to warm up, it costs £13 on the train, so I would be cheaper putting the heating on!
I did some rejigging of my budget today with updates on my spending. So far all looks to be on track, and London on Saturday won't be as expensive as I thought as dinner is included in the ticket price, so that's nice.
I'm tired today as I was in the office yesterday and went to W*therspoons for a few drinks with friends after work. Rookie error there - I never normally drink on a school night. And feeling groggy and tired I had to give an hour long presentation this morning. It wasn't super important but I would have felt better doing it fresh faced and bushy tailed!
I think I will pick up a bag of chips from the chippy when I'm out for my dog walk. Can't be bothered cooking, and chips and gravy sounds lovely right now. I always make the gravy at home and save myself a pound or so.
It seems to be very mild today. I had my heated hoody on this morning but was far too hot for it this afternoon.
Have lovely evenings everyone - I shall be mooching of the sofa and not doing anything useful!

@Deni_debt-free_dreamer - thank you so much I’ve got countless dried pulses etc - & used to make soup but those gave me a rumbly tummy (😳). A lentil casserole could be just the thing to get stocks dwindling in the larder again thank you 😊Lancashire

Good morning, all.
I had a very quite and pleasant evening last night after all the political nonsense, watching The Larkins on ITV catch up. I love the books, and liked the original adaptation which was a lot truer to the books than this one. While this one is very 'feel good' its almost silly in its simplicity, and you are hit over the head with a sledge hammer with ideas about the ridiculousness of snobbery and the like. The original books contained ideas like this but left you to work them out yourself through the actions of this salt of the earth Larkin family. So while I am enjoying it, and don't mind at all its the most multicultural and open minded 1950's village ever recorded, I do think it has been dumbed down a bit.
In money news, I applied for an American Express rewards credit card as I have been planning to do for a while. I'll set it up to pay in full each month so it won't cost me anything, and I'll get a few pounds in cashback each year. It also means I won't be using my overdraft except for a day or 2 a month and that will save me quite a bit in overdraft charges, so altogether, a good investment.
What I was absolutely gobsmacked at though was when I was accepted they gave me a credit limit of £12700! That's a ridiculous limit to have! I mean, it won't make any difference to me as I'm not using it for credit per se, but can you imagine the trouble someone could get into with a limit that size and the amount of interest you would be paying on it! I don't think that's very financially responsible of Amex to be honest. It all very well credit card companies writing to people and sating they need to pay more than their minimum each month, but what the point of that if they are handing out huge levels of credit willy nilly?!
Other than than, nothing much tot report. My chips last night were lovely. I wish I could find a way of reheating them than made them still nice edible, because as always I was given too many. I've heard airfryers do a good job but I don't have one. Maybe I'll try to chop them up and put them in an omelette on Sunday.
Out for a curry tonight, then a busy day tomorrow meeting friends in London. I could probably do with buying some biscuits and making a flask of coffee for the train. I'll have an early lunch before I go, so hopefully shouldn't be anything except planned expenditure. Sunday is going to be super busy annoyingly as I have Quakers in the morning, and then I'll need to catch up with loads of house tasks that need done. I have a routine estate agent inspection next week so I want it to all be done and just need a bit of tidying on the day.
Hope you all have lovely days and don't get caught in the rain that is tipping down here!
Live the good life where you have been planted.
