@elsien I kind of liked how The Farm moved around between perspectives but also found it annoying because I could tell that some characters were getting the wrong end of the stick so to speak. As for e-readers, I have one of the original kindles (the one with the keyboard) and love it but my library app only works on my phone. So I'll only buy books for kindle when they're on a 99p special or I'm part of kindle first reads so I get a free book once a month. They also have kindle unlimited which works a bit like audible I think but I haven't really looked into that.

Esien , I love my kindle and always have it loaded, especially for holidays.New books I usually buy as 99p kindle daily deals, unless it's something I'm desperate to read.I got rid of almost all my old Penguin classics as the print was too small and the pages yellowed. I replaced them for free or 49p.Loving a kindle doesn't mean you don't love really books, too.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

@pollypenny, I don't mind an ereader but I've had confirmation today that I can't put library books on the kindle.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Well I’ve finished Wide Sargasso Sea and ... I probably should have re-read Jane Eyre first. I felt sorry for Antoinette, despite her birth father being a former slave owner and worthy of vilification, she was a sad character. Two stars from me.‘One of our greatest freedoms is how we react to things’ said Mole.Cross stitch cafe TaDa Enjoy the Little Things, WIP Love cats, ‘A Year in the Life of’ HSC July-December and The Seasons graphic sampler. Morning all. Finished Becoming by Michelle Obama last night. Absolutely loved it - not only did it show how being determined can get you somewhere, it documented the human side of all the campaigning that comes with political jobs in America, her desire to do something to help everyone and just her humanity overall. Gave it 5 stars as it was so well written also, and comes second to Bruce Springsteen's autobiography for me in terms of the written word.
Back to finishing The New Jim Crow now.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20172 -
I have started (well, re-started, bought it a couple of years ago and never got very far) Katherine Swynford by Alison Weir. I think I gave up on it first time round because I read the Anya Seton book (also my late grandmother's favourite book) and was disappointed that it bore very little relation to known historical fact. I know it was fiction but I really did think it would have been slightly more based on the reality. Now that I've got over that, I'm reading it as a biography and it's much more interesting.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I have finished Outer Order, Inner Calm by Gretchen Rubin on my Kindle. It’s one of 27 unread books on there & had been there for some time! I gave it three stars. I’m a big fan of her work and have read both The Happiness Project and Happier at Home. Outer Order is a quick read and contains more of a summary of points to bear in mind when trying to organise your home. Divided into ‘why bother, make choices, create order, know yourself, cultivate helpful habits and add beauty. The most helpful nugget was probably the top 10 tips. Not as thought provoking as Marie Kondo for me.‘One of our greatest freedoms is how we react to things’ said Mole.Cross stitch cafe TaDa Enjoy the Little Things, WIP Love cats, ‘A Year in the Life of’ HSC July-December and The Seasons graphic sampler. Chrisca50 I’ve always enjoyed the TV series and having heard Ann Cleeve’s talk on Radio 2 would love to read some of her books. I’ve now finished ‘Like a Mule Bringing Ice Cream to the Sun by Sarah Ladipo Manyika. I read this novella (I learnt it was called) as one of two fiction books in my library pick and mix. I’m so pleased I read it. I loved this and gave it five stars. Morayo, the main character, is a Nigerian born 75 year old lady living in an apartment in San Francisco. She is a retired professor of English Literature who has a zest for life that comes through all of her senses. Deals with ageing, sexism, racism, illness and homelessness through her life and the lives of her neighbours.
Would never have read this if someone hadn’t have chosen it for me and so glad I did.‘One of our greatest freedoms is how we react to things’ said Mole.Cross stitch cafe TaDa Enjoy the Little Things, WIP Love cats, ‘A Year in the Life of’ HSC July-December and The Seasons graphic sampler.
