Buyer wants to come from Spain to buy my car. Should I be concerned?

Haha, has these before. Usually not from Europe though, usually it’s an African country. Well known scam.
But hey, if they turn up and put legit cash in your hand...0 -
I don't wish to sound harsh, unkind or unhelpfull, but I'm also struggling to find out what it is your fearful of here?
You hold all the cards, AFAICS.
The guys coming from Spain to buy a car from you, at his expense.
Meet him at a time of your convenience.
If he tries to muck you about, wants to pay in a way that won't suit you, refuses to sign documents etc, etc etc.....then tell him no thanks, the car's no longer for sale.
As someone who has buyers try to frack me off when selling cars over the years the coming from Spain bit, (although unusual), wouldn't bother me too much; just a likely to get a clown from the next street tring to pull a fast one.
TLDR....if he comes either sell it to him in the usual way or don't!
Good luck
thats the first sticking point0 -
thats the first sticking point
It's not a sticking point, (well not for the OP anyway).
If I'm selling a car to someone that can't come when it suits me, well I'm not selling the car to them am I?
Still think it's simple....guy turns up, hands over cash, completes V5, drives away with car.
OP immediatiately informs DVLA online, job done.
Where's the comeback/danger specific to the guy coming from afar as opposed to somewhere close by?0 -
Flying from Spain to London, will probably cost no more than £70 return. Put in that context it is probably no more suspicious than someone coming from Birmingham.0

Can you do "permanent export" online?
Mmmmm......good point, hadn't thought of that
General thrust of my arguement, (OP holds all the cards/ no need to sell to specific person despite how far their travelling et, ect) still holds.
Spain or Stockport, either sell if your happy, choose not to sell if you're not.0 -
Mind you, you don't need to.
The V5C/4 slip just says "Not me any more, as of this date" - so it doesn't NEED to be there-and-then.0 -

Flying maybe but add a good few hundred to that if driving back.0 -

If he's flying over, and you're presumably just meeting him at the airport, then can't you suggest some dates that suit you? You can even look up flights from wherever he's coming from to where you want to meet.
He's coming a long way so he's presumably keen enough to wait a bit.
I did similar with a car dealer flying up from London. I got a bit more than local trade-in, he got a 10+ hour drive home and listed it the next day for about a £2k markup.Flying maybe but add a good few hundred to that if driving back.
But could save hundreds in transport costs if he fills it with stuff he'd have otherwise have paid to get sent over to Spain.
Is it a rare car in Spain? It's entirely plausible. But as said, he's meeting you and handing over cash. The only scam you'd need to worry about there is fake notes, but I'm sure you could get an exchange bureau to test them for you at the airport.0
