    Neil,
They paid one payment of around the figure you quote and that was it for the whole year. Oh and they also got a £50 off, meaning if you averaged their monthly BB bill (everything paid to them) it was about £11-12pcm.

So you/they are paying Plusnet something per month and it is not for line rental, it is for broadband?
However, we are moving away from the point of the thread, which is the unfair cancellation charge.
The actual amount of the service and its components is not linked to the unfair cancellation charge, as I quoted from the Ofcom guidelines. If they paid everything due (they did- I saw) then they shouldn't be penalised for leaving early, regardless of the fact it would only be a few days, and those few days are down to the ISP not being able to take a specific date in the future to do the job!

We are not moving away from the point of the thread because it is relevant. It sounds like what's happened is you paid line rental saver for 12 months and you have a broadband contract for 12 months too.

Broadband is not the same as energy companies, there is no early switching window. If you leave even one day earlier exit fees will apply. So if you want to set up a new contract (which it sounds like you do) the previous contract will be terminated and it will attract fees as per the T&Cs.

It doesn't really matter if you were able to pay Plusnet for 1 year in advance broadband and nothing else, it's still a contract to stay with them for 12 months and if you decide to shove off and go somewhere else or cancel it, they will be entitled to charge you early exit fees for it if you do so before that 12 months is up.

    Simple as.
  • ..I was informed that the current bill payer would have a small early termination charge if this happened...
...the current subscriber has already paid for the usage up to and including the last day...
...I paid everything in one up front payment. For the question the breakdown isn't relevant...

Was it you or someone else who paid? The breakdown is very much relevant.

It sounds like they (or you) got a deal where you paid for the LR upfront and got the BB element for £0. As you/they are breaking the contract by leaving early, Plusnet are well within their rights to charge full price for the BB part of the contract for the remaining days of the agreed contract.
