I want to move to India and become a Buddhist monk.

Having looked into Buddhism previously and retreats, the advice is to not to think of any religion as a cure to any health problem.
From what I understand, the various Buddhist organisations are not very happy that people come to them, as a way to escape. They suggest that if you are interested in following their religion, that you contact local Buddhist organisations and find out more about what it means to be a Buddhist.
Don't go seeking a miracle cure, end up thousands of miles away without any support and in a worse situation. You will find yourself, with thousands of people in a similar position, who have travelled to India/Nepal, thinking the Buddhists in those countries are going to help them. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Apart from all the other very good advice you've been given here, £4,000 is not enough money to survive for any real time in India - just because there are poor people doesn't mean it's cheap to live there. And you cannot just rock up at monastery and get trained - training which, in any case, takes many years. And Buddhism isn't a cure for cruelty or war either - have a look at what is happening to Muslims in Myanmar, a genocide instigated and led by a number of Buddhist monks.
Please do not do this. At best you will end up very ill and destitute in a foreign country that you have no experience of. Realistically, you could very easily end up dead. There are more than enough desperate people and criminals in India (and here, to be fair) who would murder you for a fraction of that £4,000. India and Nepal are beautiful countries, with many lively and honest people. But they have a very dark side too, and you are simply not equipped to deal with that.0 -
I will add to all the excellent advice above that I live in a Buddhist centre in the north of England. It is entirely possible to train as a Buddhist monk right here, since two of my housemates have done just this.
Here (link below) is one Buddhist "tradition". If you click on the tab marked "Centers" you will find a list of places, probably including some that are close to you, where you can begin the training. If you follow this path, then when you are ready to travel abroad the order will itself make arrangements and pay the costs for you. Other Buddhist traditions are available, some of which may be more suitable for you than this one: I am posting this link because it is the one I know.

The OP could also consider a visit to the Samye Ling Monastery.

I appreciate everybody’s comments. I am going to take to my social worker on Monday. She is going to be concerned about it. If I take out the loan and plan to go to Indian it’s likely they will recall me on my community treatment order. I have taken some PRN my support worker gave me and don’t feel as elated. I don’t want to get recalled.? I haven’t been sectioned in 3 years and it will jeopardise my plans for this year, sorry to have bothered every body0

Go easy on the OP, they appear to be having a bit of a mental health crisis going on.
If you're talking to your support team and taking your PRN then another section may not be necessary, and a recall doesn't automatically mean a section at the end of it. The least restrictive option if you're co-operating and not talking about legging it abroad would be a shorter stay as an informal patient if a hospital stay is felt to be helpful.
I'd suggest putting all your plans for loans etc, on hold until you've had chance to talk to your support team. That's going to look more responsible and should be seen as a positive. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Huge hugs and well done for taking your meds, I know from experience that can be hard when you feel on top of the world.
You haven't bothered anyone, most are just concerned and want our forum friends to get the best advice x0 -
