I want to move to India and become a Buddhist monk.

How long can I leave the country for if on disability benefits.
I have finally been pre-approved for a £3.000 loan after my ClearScore upped my credit score. This is what I've been working towards all last year. With my £650 overdraft and £500 credit card which totals £4150 I finally have enough for my trip to India and and if needed more time to train to become a Buddhist Monk, I will have the fiancees. This has come at the right time (I don't believe in coincidences) as I believe me finally becoming a Monk will have a positive affect on world peace especially now with a war looming.
Social services took my money saving I lack capacity and would not give me funds to travel to India for religions reasons so screw them, who's having the last laugh now. I will be reported as a missing person as I'm not telling them I'm leaving the county and they can recall me back to hospital. Would the police find out I've left the county. Would appointee stop my personal allowance when away? I feel really elated and happy. I have wanted this for so long.

Hi nicetomeetyou, it sounds like you are a passionate and driven person. Those are great traits to have, but I'm wondering whether perhaps you could consider slowing things down a little. There are some Buddhist retreats in the UK that are donation only (you can find them by googling 'free Buddhist retreat' or 'donation Buddhist retreat') and that might be a good place to start your journey. Remember it's a journey not a race. The people who run the retreats will probably be able to give you some guidance about reaching your goal and developing your spirituality.
If you show people involved in your care that you are taking things at a steady pace and not jumping into things, especially expensive things, then they will be much more likely to see the decision to go to India to become a monk as a reasoned choice rather than an impulsive act or sign you lack capacity to manage your finances.
I believe patience is one of the six perfections in Buddhism so perhaps not going to India right now might actually be a sign you are living in accordance with your long term goal of becoming a monk.Mortgage at 30: £204,750 (08/2020)
Current mortgage: £145,448 (11/2024)
Goal: £145,000 by 02/2025
End goal: Mortgage free asap!0 -

You can only leave the country for up to 4 weeks until your benefits stop.

Though social services are not obliged to still fund you if you've gone awol. They would probably report you missing to the police and you may find yourself detained coming home if they feel your mental health is affected.0 -
I will forgo the benefits. The total amount I've been 100 pre-approved for is £5000. I know I can live in India for that and over stop the visa and head into Nepal after becoming a Buddha. It is Siddhartha Gautama birth place so its fitting for me to do my training where he found enlightenment then head into Nepal. I love Nepal too.0

Good way to get yourself thrown in jail and deported.0 -
I hope I reading this wrong - but you are intending to skip the country funded by a loan, a bank overdraft and a credit card.
There is no mention as to how you are going to repay this ? Or have I missed something.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
^ this will be why you are deemed to need an appointee and not well enough to manage your own affairs and money.0

Pretty sure theft, obtaining money by deception and fraud are contrary to the Buddhist ethos ?
Plenty of Buddhist temples in the UK, you don't have to go to India you know0 -

Committing fraud for a loan, and then committing immigration crimes is not the way to enlightenment. If you cannot follow your path without stealing and cheating then you have chosen the wrong path.0 -
nicetomeetyou,
you need to talk with your support team.
There is a reason that you have this team, that you have an appointee to help you control your finances and that you have previously been kept (against your will?) in hospital.
Are you on any prescribed medication? And do you always take the prescribed dose?...believe me, I know the difference it can make to your mindset if you don't take the necessary meds.
If your desired trip to India was a viable proposition, you support team would not be against it...perhaps you could talk to them about doing some shorter trips...exploring your calling to be a monk here in the UK first?
Trust me, 'running away' is not going to be the solution you imagine....yes, your appointee WOULD be able to stop the funding...yes you WOULD be reported as missing, and possibly deemed to be a danger to yourself...you WOULD be found (in all likelihood before you got to India) and taken back to hospital.
You need to look after yourself...at the moment the very BEST thing you can do is to talk things through with your support/care staff.0
