Do you view savings accounts as immoral due to giving 'free' money?
The idea of money making money does rest uneasily with me I must admit. I can't argue the point though, since it's a feeling I have rather than something based on facts.

Do you object to people lending money? Do you expect to be able to borrow money free of charge? Do you expect money to have to lose value to inflation, or do you object to people having savings in the first instance?

I'm sure you've discussed that point before. I said I can't argue about how I feel so I won't. You carry on doing what you do and I'll carry on doing what I do and never the twain shall meet. One thing we both agree on is the disdain with which we view each other, so that's positive at aleast.

Nice way to avoid answering the actual questions. I can only conclude you are avoiding the Qs because you see your self-built moral house of cards collapsing in a heap when it comes to practical matters.

It also doesn't take anyone long to work out that you were quite happily partaking in the opening of interest paying current accounts yourself - despite (to quote you) the idea of money making money resting uneasily with you. And despite of repeatedly coming on here to try and make people feel bad for doing what you did yourself. I think that's commonly called a hypocrite. I do know quite a few buddhists - in fact have recently returned from a visit to Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery - none of whom feel compelled to criticise others in the way you constantly try to. To do it in the name of your religion is especially astounding.

Yes. That's what I had all set up. £5K in two Vantage accounts and a standing order on each to pay £1000 into the other. Would have worked perfectly, but then I found out about the Santander 123 account which has much higher, and more useful maximum allowed balance on which interest can be earned. I have now opened this account and moved my savings and all my utility direct debits over, funding it with the requisite £500 each month from my main current account.

The point here is that you pay for two tubes of toothpaste. In the case of the banks, the idea is you use the account for your day to day banking, or at least part of it. I don't think the intention is that you do the minimum to appropriate the free money. The fact that the banks don't seem to care is part of the problem. As I've stated before, for me it's a moral issue and arguments about following T&Cs simply don't wash.

You post stuff like this everytime this sort of thread comes up. What makes it immoral? Every rewards account says, do X and we'll give you Y and that is exactly what posters on here do. It's your idea that you use the account for day to day banking, not the banks. There is no moral code that says "you should only have 1 bank account for banking, you cannot have one account for salary and bills, one for spending on non-essentials, one to save and pay for holidays etc to make sure you budget appropriately. And if you do have more than one account, you cannot accept the benefits the bank freely gives you."

I believe Barclays, CO-OP, Santander, Natwest/RBS and Halifax are the only ones that offer the type of rewards you are after. Key is to make sure you have enough DDs spread across them (make sure you pay bills, council tax, credit cards etc by DD). Instead of switching accounts, look to add to what you have already.

You do make me laugh! You have nothing better to do than dredge up old posts - it's your strategy to try to destroy any argument with which you disagree. To answer your criticism it is completely acceptable for people to refine and develop how they feel about life. With age comes wisdom. A Buddhist who doesn't suggest a moral approach to others is a selfish Buddhist. There are those who are interested only in enlightenment for themselves.
