  • At some point waamo, they must have known that if they venture forward, their actions would likely damage parts, so why didn't they tell me?
Or did they not have the knowledge, or worse, did they care and think they could just put technical words my way and I would assume they know better than me.

Well they certainly made it worse. Your car is supposed to be better after a visit to a garage. I personally expect garages to wreck cars which is why I keep mine well away, however the generally accepted view is that garages are supposed to make cars better.

The OP did not ask them to fix it. He asked them to give them a diagnosis.

The OP's illusion of an operation without his consent. Yes that would happen. If he was in a coma and at risk of dying they wouldn't wait in case he wakes to sign paperwork or else he could die, they end up doing what they feel is best for him as a patient. Scrubs isn't real life.

There was perhaps a misunderstanding over the need for consent to take things apart that couldn't be fixed. A valuation of a car that cuts out every so often possibly in the outside lane of a motorway wouldn't make it worth very much.

In civil cases there is the definition of reasonability by what the man on a number ten bus would think. Would that person buy your car? If so how much would they pay? If the answer to the first is no, then the second question is unnecessary, if yes, the value would be not very much above scrap value if at all.

    See post 61 point A.

Why refer to a coma? And wouldn't next of kin have a say?
    There was no misunderstanding.
    Outside lane??
Seeing as the man on the bus has to use public transport, is he qualified to recognise the value of a car?

Bogof, I have produced the key facts, read my comment 5 Jan 11.29pm.

    Waamo
Are you suggesting that the garage would not be qualified to know that by removing specific parts they wouldn't work again?

I'm saying that without knowing the fault nobody can say what the garage should, or shouldn't, have known. We don't have a crystal ball.

    Really?
I don't want to re-read the whole thread, but I don't recall you telling us which parts are involved. Or the make and model.
