My insurer has lost my proof of no claims

I went on-line earlier to check around for cheap deals for my upcoming car insurance, but i could't see anywhere on the paper work they sent me how many years no claims discount i had. so i rang them up to ask them to confirm and i was told i had 0. if i renewed with them for next year i wold have 1. I have been driving for 20 years and haven't had a single accident or claim, so i should be entitled to the maximum of 15 years i think. I found my previous years insurance documentation and it said 15 years NCD, but when i rang them back they told me it was now invalid as to much time had elapsed since the renewal last January. It seems they have made a mistake on entering it onto the system but i can't now get it corrected.

I've found a website https://www.mib.org.uk/ Motoring insurance database, that holds everyone's car insurance details but they don't record NCD, and they said if i request a copy of my details they have on the database it won't include NCD. I'm stuck on how to get this resolved. I think i will just renew with out the NCD as i've only got a couple of weeks and then try and fight it but how?

Most insurance companies allow two years for no claims so last January's will be fine.

I was told by them 3 months is the maximum. It may well be there rules. I there something set out in law or by the Motor insurance Financial Ombudsman Service that says they have to honour it for 2 years? Seems a easy win for them to "lose" a few customers details each years and then they can charge you more money. There should be something to prevent them from doing it. I know i should have checked the paper work, but i didn't check to see if the NCD was printed on there I just checked the information they had printed like name address and car details. I had told them over the phone all the details when i took the policy out, as it was fairly cheap, the NCD must have been applied.

Almost all will accept proof up to 2 years old. Go elsewhere at renewal.

If it is their policy to only accept NCD within 3 months. It is a strange time frame.

But as you have THEIR letter from last year. Raise a complaint. On the basis that THEY confirmed you had 15 years.
Asking how it has gone from 15 to 0 over a year and what are they going to do to fix THEIR error. Which is causing you great distress & costing you money.

Should see a few £££ coming your way.

There are two simple answers to that.

    1. The NCB wasn't applied to this policy at inception, so how should they know? Perhaps it's been used on another policy in the meantime?
    2. About that at-fault claim in the year...

1.Well I think the OP would have noticed a massive price difference between 15 & 0 NCD

    2. Read the OP... :rotfl:

I think you might be missing my point.

(And nobody recognises 15yrs NCB, either - max is usually about 6)

Use that with this years one year to prove 16 years ncb.

Was this years insurance based on zero ncb?

I've tried going to different insurance compaines and they told me thye will only accept the newest renewal as proof of NCD which is this years which is 0. and if i stick with them i get 0 so i'm stuck either way?

This doesn’t add up, a renewal but it’s zero years NCD? That suggests a claim was made the previous 12 months otherwise it would be 1 years NCD at worst from existing policy prior to renewal. Are you sure a claim hasn’t been made against you?
