According to emoneyfacts, Ipswich Building Society will be launching tomorrow an instant access branch and postal operated regular savings account paying 3.5%. Suspect the 3.5% will be variable and not fixed judging by the old account.

Maximum monthly investment of £500 (minimum £10).

11 consecutive payments are required by direct debit.

There is a 3.00% loss of interest if more than one payment is missed.

One withdrawal is allowed per year. The account is closed if more than one withdrawal is made.

Not yet showing on Ipswich Building society website just the old account with a maximum of £250 and 2.95% variable rate.

On the site now.Do they take applications from outside their branch area ?
I have a deep burning indifference

Yes, You can download an application form from here (towards the bottom of the page under useful downloads) and post it back to them.

  • Hi Folks,

Here is this weekend's update for this thread...

    - NatWest / RBS Regular Savings account information in post 4 updated as information about these accounts now appears on the NatWest / RBS websites; there is further information on when the 12 month term starts and it does not say anywhere that you cannot open an account at NatWest and another one at RBS

    - Abbey Fixed Rate Monthly Saver Issue 8 added to post 5 (as you need to open a current account at the same time), paying 6% on £20-250 per month for 13 months, unclear if there is a penalty for closing the account early

    - Alliance & Leicester Premier Regular Saver added to post 5 (similar to the Abbey account above, pays 6% on £10-250 for 12 months, no penalty for early account closure)

    - Egg Savings account (feeder section) interest rate increased to 3.25% from 7th August to any account which was opened from 26th June onwards

    - Leeds BS Online Access Account (feeder section) added again as it has been relaunched by Leeds BS, paying 3.05% (as before) but you can only fund it for a limited time and the interest rate is not as good as the Egg Savings account

    All the best,
    SS2

    For info:-

Re: Norwich & Peterborough Gold Savings Account

According to their T & Cs, the requirement for a linked Gold Current A/c involves an "average" of £500 per month to be deposited in this current a/c.

As no interest is now payed on this current a/c, there is no point in necessarily paying in any more than the "average" of £500 per month to qualify for the regular saver a/c.

Does anyone know if one has to transfer all one's S/Os etc to the new current acct you need to open to get this rate, or will transferring just some do the trick?

Isn't it possible to make this useful thread a 'Sticky' so that's it's more easily accessible?

You will find that this thread and Kazza's on Best ISAs have had many request to be sticky. The authorities at MSE Towers will not allow it because it cuts out their money making scheme of getting you to use their references.
Shame, but it is their site and without income it would not exist.

Plus there are already way too many stickies at the top of the forums as it is.

IMO it would be better to have 1 thread that is stickied with links to all the 'best' threads rather than loads of individual ones.

    Hi MSE Forum Fans,

I am not so busy this week and I have just updated post 4 in this thread. The Principality Regular Saver Bond (Issue 8) paying 4% gross p.a. has been withdrawn and replaced today with the better Issue 9 which has the same terms and conditions but is paying 4.5% gross p.a.

MSE forum users have previously reported that you can open one of each issue simultaneously, so there is nothing to stop you applying for an issue 9 if you already hold one of the previous issues. Do make sure that you will be able to keep the account open for 12 months and make a payment each month otherwise you get a negligible interest rate.

As for the other posts above...

It says all of them on the A&L website (see quote below):
You will need to switch all your direct debits/standing orders to the current account using our Premier Switching Service within 11 weeks of the account opening and meet the conditions of the Premier Current Account otherwise the Premier Regular Saver may be closed.

As RayWolfe says, this has come up before and, for whatever reason, the MSE team do not want to sticky this thread and they de-stickied Kazza's thread from the ISA sub-board.

Yes, I think that would be a good idea - like this stickied thread by Crabman on the Travel Board of the MSE forums. In the first post of this thread, I include a list of useful related threads and I think that has cut down the number of new users of this forum who ask the same questions that have been asked many times before. (If they do ask the same questions again, then you can always save yourself some effort and point them to post 1 of this thread!)

Edit: I shall send a private message to Crabman, who is also one of the moderators of the Savings and Investments Forum. You never know, Crabman might make it happen.
