But any money already deposited will be trapped in the account until the first anniversary of the initial deposit, unless you close early under penalty of 90 days loss of interest. These are very poor terms for a regular saver account. Might be worth it if the interest rate was significantly higher than average but 2% just doesn't do it.
Well yes, what you say is correct. But, if you invested for say 9 months before deciding to call it a day for whatever reason, then you would have 2700 in the account. You might as well not bother making further deposits and simply let it peter out on the 12th month? Of course if you had a change of heart sooner, then you'd have less "trapped" money in there.0 -

What about the Leeds RS Issue 9?
Where have you been?!There are some people with over 10 RSs with Virgin Money. You're allowed one of each issue.
Leeds RS issue 9 will increase from 2.3% to 2.55% from 23rd Nov.:grouphug:Official MSE canny forumite and HUKD VIP badge member

There are a lot of details on this thread about the regular savers available - I suggested the current VM ones because I knew it would be easy for you to get them as you have one already. I currently have 14.
I personally have applied for the Leeds RS, but they need a certified document from me to prove my identity. I need to ring them as I was with them a few years ago.

All,
QQ - I have a Halifax Regular Saver (2%) that has been running for 12 months - current t&cs suggest that it was a 12 month account but something imn the back of my memory tells me that it was a 24 month account when I set it up 12 months (ish) ago. - Does anyone have the t&cs applicable for set ups in Dec 2016 ?
Can flex either way but rather know the facts
TIA

I don't have the T&C's to hand, but mine is a similar age and as expected I've just had the letter informing me that the year is coming to an end.
As far as I was aware 12 months was the only option - if a 24 month option was available I'd have certainly gone for that instead."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
Is it both Halifax and BoS that are due to launch 2.5% RS in December? Do you think you'll be able to have one of each, if you've got a BoS CA, and a Halifax CC (but not CA) ?? i.e. internet banking for both.
Baited breath held!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
You could "roll over" the Halifax regular saver to continue (well, unless terms have changed because you could do this a couple of months' ago). The letter that you received advising of its maturity mentions the roll over option, you just have to phone them to let them know (the previous year's balance is transferred out, so you start with a nil balance for the new "rolled over" year).
I can't remember if Halifax is fixed rate or not, so if fixed at 2%, you'd be better off re-starting a new one if the rate's increasing, rather than rolling over old one.

The "open to all Halifax" regular saver is 2% and IIRC its fixed interest and was for 12 months. Based on most big bank behaviour on these things its probably going to be a "one only of any of them", as opposed to the Virgin way of "one of each issue" if a new rate of 2.5% comes out.0

No reason why not. BoS requires you to have a BoS current account in order to qualify for the RS. Halifax doesn't, presumably because it is a fixed term account:cool:0
