I've started four or five SOs on October 1st from a Santander account in the last few weeks. No reaction from them in my case.
  • Can you advise where/how you know of this? It's not mentioned (so far as I can see) on the Bucks BS website and I haven't had a letter (yet). Maybe you've seen a branch notice or an advert in a Bucks local paper?

    I had a letter dated 23rd Sept.

While they certainly don't process standing orders on non-working days, they do allow you to set them up. I specified monthly payments on the 1st on each month starting 1/10/16. The SO was accepted, but the first payment will be on 3/10/16 as expected.

I have occasionally seen this 'technical error' on Santander, but usually I retry the transaction immediately, and it works.

I tried 4 or 5 times and got the same error each time, hence my phone call.

If you've both managed to start one on 1/10/16, its odd that the CS person told me that was the reason for the error.

Just tried to change the date from 3rd to 1st, and it reverted to 1 November:( Changed back to 3rd, and I'll amend it next week.
  • I've had a lot of problems recently setting up SO's from Santander 123. More often than not I get the error message and have to start again, re-entering the details. Sometimes it gives me the error message before the OTP bit; other times I get the OTP sent but then the error message comes up after entering the OTP and I have to start all over again.

However, I doubt that the explanation is the one given by the CS person. I have opened several RS's in September, setting up SO's for the 1st of the month starting October. That is a Saturday, so the October payment won't go until the 3rd, but I have been able to set them up after several attempts. Likewise I have had the error message trying to set up one's starting on 12 October, which is a weekday.

MSE news article stating that FD and HSBC are cutting their reg savers to 5% from tomorrow.

M&S has cut it from today.

Was expecting a bigger blow to be honest...

Would they honour the rate for online applications received up to midnight today as they won't open the account until tomorrow at the earliest?
