    They are so thick (!)
When you hit "Apply for an Issue 8" account the page you're taken to is labelled "Issue 6 downloads".

You're then presented with the invitation to apply for an "Issue 7".

Even the application form is headed "Issue 7"!

    Classic Abbey.
I refuse to have anything more to do with them.
Maybe I'm cutting off my nose to spite my face but my blood pressure won't stand anymore Abbey c0ck-ups!

    From the Intro by SS2
I am only including accounts where the interest rate is at least as good as the third best standard savings account from Martin's Savings Accounts page.
    Martin's 3rd highest is AA 4.53%

    Coventry Monthly Saver is 3.35%

    That's why. It's pretty pitiful.
You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...
  • Hi folks,

    Here is this weekend's update:

    - Scarborough BS City Saver withdrawn
    - Principality BS Regular Saver Bond Issue 5 (paying 7% fixed rate) replaced with Issue 6 (paying 6% rate)
    - Halifax Regular Saver paying 5% fixed rate for new applicants (was 6%) - this is for the UK version (the offshore version is still paying 6%)
    - Bank of Ireland High Interest Regular Saver account paying 4% AER fixed rate for new applicants (was 6% AER)
    - Chelsea BS Monthly Extra interest rate dropping from 6% variable for first year to 5% variable from Monday 22nd December according to emoneyfacts
    - Tesco Internet Saver interest rate dropping from 6% variable to 5.1% but not until 8th January

As for the posts above on Abbey, I have stopped banking with them too after numerous problems.

Okay, I shall post a further update at some point over the very long holiday weekend next week. Happy holidays!

  • Hi

As of today Abbey have not contacted me to say they have managed to open my Fixed Rate Regular Saver Account issue 8 (see thread 420).

I see Principality have issue 6 Regular Saver now, does anybody know if you can have issue 5 and 6 running at the same time? I did email them in the week but have not had a reply as yet.

  • Hi Thanks Speculator and Mary

Looks like Principality will get my money, rather than Abbey.

Principality are certainly far less hassle than Abbey. Although I have a credit card, new current account and 1 savings product with Abbey, they are particulary difficult to get hold of the correct department whenever something is not straightforward.
