Whilst the rate has got steadily worse as we all know and with the emergence of the rather attractive Halifax 10%, I am now considering opening one and closing my YBS (transferring the closing balance to my A&l esaver) -
BUT after using the new reg saver calculator fandangle posted by MSE Dan, I see that even with the low rate YBS is currently offering I would still be earning more interest in the coming year keeping the YBS account going as is rather than switching to Halifax.
Has anyone got any views on this? Am I right in sticking or should I be jumping ship (yet again) in search of a few percent?! I guess I could keep the YBS and open an Halifax...so confused!
Well, you could debate what the best thing to do is. As for me, I have left the money that is already in my YBS Regular Saver alone (there is not enough money in my account to make it worth worrying about getting a small fraction of a per cent more interest per year after tax by moving it elsewhere) and have decreased my monthly contribution to the minimum £10 per month.

Hi everybody,
I have had a look around but cannot find anything to add or delete for this week's update.
I shall be on the road a lot for the next 2 weeks but will do an update for this thread when I get a chance.

Hello everybody,
I am still on the road but I have managed to find some free internet access! I can only find really minor things to change in this thread - no new or withdrawn regular savings accounts to mention.
I have updated the following:
- added the fact that Scarborough's City Saver 10% account is now also available at Lincoln city centre branch (in addition to Leeds city centre branch, as before)
- corrected some weblinks which were no longer pointing to the right place
- removed the link in post 2 to the Birmingham Midshires 6.5% eSaver (no strings savings account) as my link is now incorrect (superceded by version 2 paying 6.52%) and also because Martin does now mention it in his page Best Savings Accounts (which I have always provided a link to in post 2)
That's all folks...

Hi everybody,
Not much to really report in this update...
There is a new regular saver from Cambridge Building Society but it only pays 6% gross p.a. fixed for 1 year on £20-250 per month, which is not good enough to earn a place on the first posts of this thread. It will be launched tomorrow and is not yet on their website but details have come from this emoneyfacts page. I should also mention that this building society will only let people who live near one of their branches open an account (according to their website).
All the best,

Just wondered if the Tesco Internet Saver should be included in the list of feeder accounts. It pays 6.25% (though this includes a bonus of 1.5% for 12 months) and can apparently make faster payments to any account that accepts them.
Thanks for all the work you do keeping this thread up to date - can't be easy when you're on the road.

Hi tiptoe,
Thanks for the encouragement and for the information on the Tesco account.
Could you (or anybody else) post a message here to say whether this account can only send money to the nominated account?
Looking at the web page that you linked to, it appears that this is the case, which would make it difficult to use this as a feeder account. If this account can send money to any account then I would very much like to add it to my list.

It's poorly worded. It works just like the Sainsbury's Internet Saver...except (potentially) faster!0 -
Thanks YorkshireBoy for the fast reply. Okay, I have added it to post 9 (and it goes straight to the top of that post). I have also included a link to this thread which mentions how to use some of the cashback sites to get up to £20 for signing up for this account.

I went by what Dagobert says in post no. 6 in the following thread:

I've not fully opened mine yet, so I can't say first hand. Must go find the letter that said what they needed me to send back.

I opened my Tesco Internet Saver with a cheque from my Lloyds TSB current account. Since then, I've deposited money using faster payments from Lloyds and HSBC, and sent a faster payment to my Halifax current account. All the faster payments were received within seconds.
Regards,
Rob0
