Have just spoken to HSBC customer services and they have indicated that their 5% and 10% regular savers are likely to end over the next few days (likely Sat 5th Feb) once their 'sale' comes to an end.

    Yep, they're now showing 8% and 4%

  • Hi Everybody,

    Here is this weekend's update.

Only one thing has changed as far as I can see. The Furness BS Monthly Saver Issue 2 account has been withdrawn...
    SS2

The Furness Monthly Saver 2 was replaced by the Lifestyle Saver (3% variable):

    Hi Folks,

I have updated the entries on the HSBC accounts and I have added the Furness BS account to post 2 (no maturity date) with the following details:

    Furness BS Lifestyle Saver

Interest rate: 3% gross p.a. variable from 31st January 2011
Monthly payment: £1-£250 (£500 if joint account)
Miss any payments: No (if you miss any payments then the account will be closed and the balance will be transferred to a Furness Access Saver account)
Penalty-free withdrawals: One per anniversary year and you can close your account at any time without notice or penalty
    Age of applicant:
    16 years or older

How to open account: Branch or post
Special conditions: Branch and postal transactions are permitted.

The terms and conditions seem pretty good (apart from the fact that the account will be closed if you miss any payments). It is a shame that the interest rate is only a little bit above the best "no strings" savings accounts but it certainly qualifies for inclusion on this list. Thanks for pointing out this account premierfella.

Marsden BS Christmas Saver (Issue 3)

Just phoned Marsden about this account, to be told it is no longer available, despite the fact it is advertised on their website!
  • Hi Everybody,

I have removed the Marsden BS account from the first page of this thread. Apart from that, I cannot find anything to change this week.

I will do another update next weekend.

  • Just called Loughborough BS to find out what happens now I've made the 12th payment to my account. They said it will continue indefinitely, paying 4%.

    Just FYI
  • Hi Folks,

    Here is this weekend's update.

The Barnsley BS Online Saver Issue 2 (feeder section) has been temporarily withdrawn.

I will do another update either next weekend (if possible) or the weekend after.

That's not correct. The 4% includes a 1% bonus on the amounts deposited between anniversaries. That translates as 3% [i.e. no bonus] on the year end balance and 4% only on what you add before the next anniversary. If you are happy to be getting 3% then leave it there but to continue receiving '4%' you should draw down the balance by the year end amount - using your one allowed 'free' withdrawal. Also you can't change the regularly saved amount 'mid year' - only at the anniversary time.

See their rates leaflet for product details (I see that LBS has changed its website - which used to be navigable and now isn't - why do they 'fix' something that isn't 'broken'?)
.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam
