Does the speckle help much? I have 2 young children so if it does I will definitely consider that. Not a thought that had come to my mind previously tbh.
The walls we have are light grey, almost white mostly and the room is quite big so hopefully will be OK.
My living room is definitely my favourite, then it will be the kitchen, then main bedroom, garden and the other bedrooms. Can't imagine getting as excited over the porch and landing bit of the house.

Clearly you are a far less messy eater than I am south coast!
I do think it helps. I went with one that is like this (no connection with the company - just googled and picked one that looks like mine) https://www.onlinecarpets.co.uk/silver-cloud-925-grand-national-carpet.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwzN71BRCOARIsAF8pjfgOlNWXPrMViR_ZOdrD4a-cRxunTnlOVKS1lSiIhV7JpzKcMTiVrKIaApqJEALw_wcB and it covers up a lot of the mess I make. I do make quite a lot of mess as I shake sometimes but I don't know how this compares with children! I went with a local carpet man who discussed what I wanted, including whether I had kids or pets as that affected his advice.
I'm sure when the porch is the last thing to own, you'll be excited then!4 -

I second getting a speckle. My DD insisted on a plain grey carpet and it shows any marks - but is a lovely colour. It is paired with lots of painted white gloss wood in her bedroom, a slate grey and polished pebble. She has a black desk, grey chair, several mirrors and kind of wood effect chest of drawers and bedside table. It looks good. She has turquoise and silver curtains that lift the room and a teal bedside lamp. I think accent colours matter.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

No Tilly Tidy Friday today as due to the home improvements there is no money to play with really. So mid month and counting down towards the next pay day.
I tend to always overspend on food shopping esp atm when I feel like we should have some treats at home. I saw a post on another thread about setting a weekly budget for food and then if you are under it moving the remains to the mortgage. I think this would help me to keep shopping down so will put this in place from next month.
I remembered last night that I must look out the ppi paperwork to claim back the tax so will aim to do that today if I can.

A weekly budget sounds like a good idea. We struggle so badly with budgeting for food but doing it weekly sounds more manageable than monthly! We definitely need to plan fun food into it though as otherwise my OH will just go and spend more money.
I struggle to shop for all of us as we have such different tastes in food. I think I've got him something nice but then he turns his nose up at it. It's much harder now we can't go together and I get a bit stressed about it. I hate the environment with everyone accidentally bumping into each other and apologising.
Also I never noticed what an unorganised shopper I am (I must rack up a lot of steps) until all this happened 🤣 xJan update
