  • Congratulations Laura-Elsewhere, great news!

My project is to sew up the holes that have appeared in a skirt. It is a double layered cotton fabric with some elasticity and the holes of course are in the front layer at the front. Potentially, mending it will be the death of the skirt, but it is already looking very scruffy so worth a try. I could put a couple of patches on but it's really not my style so I expect it would be a fair amount of work for something I would then not yet wear . . . Will report back.

And project #2 - an enormous hole has appeared in an unmentionable part of OH's running shorts. It's bigger than the leg holes!
Is that enormous hole somewhere along a seam?  If so, then it's due to constant strain on the fibres, which are being pulled against something inelastic, the seam stitches.  If you sew it up, your OH may get a few more months wear out of the shorts but they are just as likely to rip at the same point.

    Sorry

    Pip
There's a sort of netting that provides a cradle, it has come undone and then unravelled itself. I think that if I can find thread of a similar weight then I can mend it a bit like one would a fishing net.

Love the visible mend pictures, they look fab! I darned the skirt and it looks OK, not perfect but upgraded from "gardenwear" to "housewear". Will see if it holds.

I don't buy many new clothes but one thing I did want to buy this year was a pair of Lucy & Yak corduroy dungarees.  They are a sustainable and ethical brand and tick all the boxes for the type of companies I buy new items from, their dungarees are always selling out as they only make in fairly small batches and they were only taking orders up to 1 April due to the current situation, they had the ones I wanted in so I ordered them and they arrived yesterday.  They are so gorgeous and will be well loved, totally worth the 6 coupon spend.
The dungarees sound as if they’ll be very well loved.  I hope you enjoy them for years to come.

Good afternoon everyone. Happy Easter! Hope everyone has a lovely day x
Thank you, Lolly!  Happy Easter to you and all the Fashion-on-the-Rationers!

I’m settling in to watch Death on the Nile and to work on the swatch for my next jumper.  The weather turned about 5 minutes ago and we are now in the middle of a hail storm.

Happy Easter from me too, I have been pottering in the garden this morning, warm out but less so than yesterday, may be due some rain later or tonight.  No clothes bought or cleared out, if it is able to go ahead I will need an outfit for a wedding at the end of August, it will be a smart do and I would like a maxi or midi dress, but no point in thinking to much about it for now.  (I hate shopping for new clothes at the best of times.

  • Some lovely clothes in Death on the Nile but Ustinov is terrible as Poirot and the script is dire.  (He’s not as bad as Branagh, but he’s close.)

    - Pip
Oh, Ustinov is indeed dreadful, but I still love that version for sentiments' sake - and my Dad reckons the opening scene with everyone getting onto the train, and the steam billowing round the Gare de l'Est, is one of the most brilliant few minutes ever filmed and I agree!

Happy Easter everyone - clouded over early afternoon here and very close - hoping for thunder to clear it.

Chocolate eggs for breakfast, hot cross buns for lunch and lamb and full roast for supper... :)

I'm pondering needlework projects - so much I could make and I'm so frustratingly slow at making things!!!!

Sorry, Laura.  Sadly, it is Death on the Nile, not Murder on the Orient Express.  The latter is far better and your Dad is right, the opening of Murder on the Orient Express is wonderful.  The thought of it makes me long for a luxury train trip...

How is your niece?  Better, I hope.
