  • Thriftwizard,  PipneyJane suggested taupe, but maybe there is another colour which would co-ordinate with it. and which will be more wearable afterwards.   Navy, perhaps, or cream/bone?  or if it is patterned, is there another colour in the fabric which you could match?

  • Oh, and hold your cane in both hands and use it to move it - side to side, in front above your head, different levels, behind your head,/back/bum - there's loads you can do with both hands!

@pixitotts, my longest lasting black socks - worn to death - are MrT’s cheapest, the Value ones which used to sell for 62p per two-pack.  That’s how old they are.

@thriftwizard - the dress sounds lovely.  Could you wear it with taupe shoes? At least you would be able to get more use out of them than pink shoes.

@maddiemay - glad you love the top.  Care to model it and share a photo?

    - Pip

Pip - now that we do not have to have a photo hosting site, I had thought that I will try and get a photo, get it onto my laptop (Bluetooth hopefully) and post it, need to wait for a brighter day I think.

  • Ladies, I have no worries about wearing pink! It's stopping me, as my DDs would say. Not a subtle baby pink, more - well, cerise, really. Blue would also work quite well with the dress, which is bright flowers (mostly pink, but some blue) on an off-white/navy blue background. I don't do well in pale or subtle colours; my colouring is quite high, as they used to say, and I look overpainted before I've put any make-up on at all! It'll be a small, informal & very relaxed "do" so it's not necessary to look anything other than nice & I may well end up in the kitchen immediately afterwards so "washable" is essential!

pixtotts - have you had Dr Martens before?  I am a big fan and have quite a few pairs and I love them all very much but they do take a bit of perseverance to break in.

@dolly84 , thank you for that comment its good to hear that they take time to break in.  Mine do feel better with the third wear this morning - helped by better socks that don't fall down.  They do look smart but I was worrying I'd chosen looks over comfort.  Good to know its worth persevering.

I've been reviewing my 'capsule wardrobe' this morning aka as 'sorting out the wardrobe of doom'.  I've managed to get down to about 50 items this morning.  I also found another article about capsule wardrobes which wasn't so concerned with the total number of items but more about keeping your wardrobe appropriate to what you do - mine is mainly Work, Lounge, Active.   I can ditch the just in case dressy/going out stuff or can move it to a separate wardrobe, which feels like a good step.

I love this thread, it has really made me consider every purchase I make.

Wanted: a good, online button supplier

    Afternoon All

Does anyone have an online button supplier they can recommend?  I am working on Finish Up February, attempting to get some of my completed handknits into a wearable state, mainly weaving in ends and sewing on buttons, but I’m stuck.  I need buttons for my Hand Knit Charm.  The button holes are too small for anything I have in stock.  Chances of getting to John Lewis or Hobbycraft are slim, so I was wondering if you could recommend an online supplier.

    Many thanks,

    - Pip

Not had any dealings with anyone lately, but seem to remember The Button Queen and Duttons for Buttons.

Ooh... The Button Queen!  I remember them from the Knit & Stitch Show at Ally Pally.  Thank you.  I will check them and Duttons out.

supersaver - if you have the traditional boots I recommend lacing them snugly right from the first holes so that your feet don't slip about in them, I reckon mine took about a month to wear in but that wasn't with daily wear, when they do crease to your feet they will be very comfortable.

Pipney - I was going to recommend Duttons for Buttons but wasn't sure if they are online.
