I googled for pics and I think this one gives you a good idea - some needlecord is finer yet than this, sometimes called babycord and used for baby clothes!
Corduroy is typically 100% cotton, unless it has some stretch added via Lycra percentage

And now, I can't stop laughing... was I hankering after needlecord? I'm now the proud owner of about 30m of the stuff, in a fetching shade of sludgy greeny-brown, with a twee floral sprig pattern... Circle skirt, no problem! The auctioneer's description was "a good quantity of fabric remnants" & I'd spotted a piece of vintage Laura Ashley in the box, so risked a bid; you can always do something with fabric...
So I went to pick it up this morning & ended up with an entire van-load of fabric. That box was only the tip of the iceberg, or possibly even glacier. There's some excellent stuff in there, as well as a lot of small bits which have already been spoken for by a trainee theatrical costumer friend. But - just let me know, if you need some coupon-free vintage needlecord...
Out of sheer curiosity, @thriftwizard, how much did you pay for your bounty? It sounds like you hit the mother load!

I paid £25 + VAT + buyer's premium, PipneyJane, so a bit over £32 in all. I don't usually strike that lucky!
Pic of the needlecord; looks fully brown in electric light but there's a definite green tinge in daylight...

Thank you for the party TwibbleDee, very much enjoyed it!
Well done on the fabric haul thriftwizard, you really got a bargain there. I’ve never looked at our local auction house for fabric, might have to start....... although I really do have enough stashed already!Stash busting challenge 2025: 0/100 £0/£100 Fashion on the ration 2025: 0/666 -
I'm full of admiration @thriftwizard , and just a little hopeful that one day I will hit bounty like that (even though I can barely sew
). I know what you mean about the colour as I have a jumper that's green in some lights and brown in others. It was a strange experience the first time I wore it as a green top and discovered it was being a nice shade of chocolate that day. I've never been entirely sure what it really is.
I think the needlecord is destined for culottes with a matching bag but that leaves possibly 27m to account for...

It's quite lightweight, actually! I'll probably divide it up into 5m (or yard) lengths for sale, as that's long enough to do most things, and if they wanted to do curtains, they could always buy two lengths. However trends for household textiles are currently for very large floral patterns, so I doubt that anyone will!Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)6
