Confused... can we have two broadband providers in one house??

I would ask your dad when he's in a good mood and offer to pay towards the internet bill....... if he agree's you can just throw it back in his face.
Although from what your saying it might be worth paying for your dad to have some counseling.

Wireless does work but I will admit it can sometimes be a pain to set up correctly.
This is all you need

a one off payment of £35 and there will be no more wires to disconnect (to your machine).
Just sit the router next to the modem and tuck both of them away somewhere. Your dad can have a wire to his machine but there is nothing going to yours (or anyone elses, it sounds like there are a few of you)
I use one of those routers myself and have no problems at all.
EDIT: I am assuming it is Virgin Media Cable Internet and not ADSL (phone line)0 -
if he is prone to switching off the connection in a bad mood then just because you have put a connection in and pay for it isn't going to stop him switching it off in a bad mood surely?0

^But if it's a separate modem like the ones Three have, surely he won't be able to unless he comes into my room, which he won't do.
At the moment my internet connects to his via a router (and lots of wires under the carpet), which is how it's so easy for him to disconnect me.0 -
In that case you really have to go down the 3 USB Modem route as d123 mentioned.

£10 per Month for 1GB.
He can always switch off the Virgin cable modem so no matter what you try, he can still disconnect you if you are wired OR wireless.
All this seems a little silly to me though!! Time to move out and make your own way in the World??0 -
If your parents don't want you to use the internet now why do you think they will agree for you to have your own line?
Best advice, sit down and talk it over. Listen to what they are saying and hope they listen to you. Then try and come to some agreement.
Or move out.0 -

They wouldn't need to agree to the 3 USB modem, it has no installation further than plugging it into a usb port.
If OP wants to stay at home and have the internet, it is the easiest way to keep the peace.====0
