Reading this thread has cheered me up a bit as I have a debt of £2514 with Paypal Credit which Wescot have been sending me letters about.

Good to know that it's unlikely to be taken to court etc... do Paypal ever sell debts to DCA's???

To date, it has not happened, there appears to be some legal anomaly with an American company that has a head office in Luxembourg, and operate worldwide, they are regulated by the FCA, but only on a voluntary basis, so they can ignore disputes if they wish, and they do so, on a massive scale.

Anyone can do anything, as long as it’s legal.
Debt is purchased on the basis of how easy it will be to collect it.

Once bought, it only costs them the price of postage to find out, lots of people pay up without question.

You would not have, say a french debt bought by an English collector, but a foreign debt can be bought by a uk debt buyer, if the original debtor was a uk citizen, so they can be chased here, if they can be found, however they may struggle with providing evidence of liability, which it why it very rarely happens.

On the legal side I'd suggest getting bank statements that show the transfers to the third party and screenshot anything on Snapchat regarding this (although with how Snapchat works I guess it is too late).

I would also ask PayPal for a breakdown of the debt preferably showing each fraudulent transaction. If you used the PayPal account for selling other things they might have been added in by mistake.

Also go to your doctor about your depression, they maybe able to adjust your medication to help more.

They are places that can help such as the Samaritans and the citizen advice bureau.

paypal transactions are shown independently in the summary, so paypal cannot supply anything more than OP already has. The debt will also only be any chargeback amounts that put the paypal account into a negative balance. Paypal will not be charging on an individual basis.

It is extremely unlikely anyway that this could have gone on for a year and even more unlikely that the OP will come back again.
