As it's the first of the month, I have updated my "money needed" figures and was pleased to see them lurch forward as a result of my final payment from work. Not so pleasing was the realisation that they'll probably now be going backwards from that point, as money will be moved from the "cash savings" category and used to pay bills instead of being used to buy me freedom via lowering the mortgage or increasing the ISA. And although some of the cash savings will be going towards the mortgage, it won't decrease by the full amount being sent because of the ERC's so not a straight swap.... (I know it's REALLY not the done thing around here to pay the ERC's, but I'm going to, so 😝)
So, being a MFW and therefore slightly bonkers, I have set myself a challenge of earning via free money the value of this month's ERC's and interest, so that every penny coming out of the cash savings and into the mortgage is actually reducing the balance by that amount, leaving me "neutral" on the overall picture (well, the mortgage bit of it anyway). Total target amount £142. Hmmm.... And don't say "Don't worry SC, you'll do that easily, you got more than that last month" because that really was a fluke! And some of my screen time really does need to be targeted towards finding a job (we had live LinkedIn commentary at the breakfast table this morning 😥 Was quite glad to come home and escape the lecturing). But what's MFW without a challenge, eh 🤣?Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

That’s a great challenge sc, could you add in a bit of flea bay selling or something else to help you reach the target to make things easier?MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5

Thanks NG, should have guessed you'd see a kindred spirit in the bonkers challenge mission 🤣! I did wonder about selling, but really not sure I've got anything. Although I do have two unusual coins I've been meaning to dispose of for months which might get me a few pence (both found on the floor, so pure profit 🤣!) Will have a bit of a rummage over the next few days 😀Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Don’t forget to look for jobs too
I keep reminding myself that the sooner I find one the more of my redundancy money goes to the mortgage and my pensions...

I am, I promise! There are some around, but lots less money and seniority and I think it's too soon to be jumping into something that's not "quite" right. I also think employers might be sceptical if they see me applying for things straight away which they have a feeling I wouldn't want to be staying in long-term - I know that's what I would think if I received my CV! Thanks for the nudge though, keep them coming 😀!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

You mean that shop where all the smelly peasants go?! 😂
As well as fleabay, anything for ziffit or music magpie?Mortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.
Starting Mortgage Balance (June 2019) £72,000.
Aiming to be mortgage free by my 40th birthday, June 2026!5 -
That's the one 😀! I do have a running box of stuff I try to offload to We Buy Books, but it's definitely down to the dregs now! Not tried Ziffit or Music Magpie for a while though so could give those a go again, good shout. Slightly hampered by not having access to a printer for the labels at the moment though (knew work was useful for something 🤣!) And about half of the stuff is bits I prised away from BF, so I would need to give him the money for those - handy for bulking it up to get over the minimum threshold though!
I've finally moved some bits of wood from my lounge floor into the back of my car to take away - only been there since, er....January, at a guess??? Room looks much bigger now! Why do we do it to ourselves 🙄? Hilariously, one of my new year resolutions was "Don't dump stuff on the lounge floor" 🤣! I'm glossing over the fact that the stuff I triumphantly decluttered at the beginning of the year is yet to leave the house (duvet cover/towel/bikini - remember them???).... Have transferred them from the lounge floor to my bed so I could give the floor a good hoover, but clearly they will need to move somewhere again before the day is out!
Oh, and in even-more-ridiculous news, I ordered some flip-flops and sandals on Friday as I have been without flip-flops so far this summer and my feet are getting too hot in pumps. All on sale, so £45 for 3 pairs of flip-flops and 2 pairs of slider-type sandals. So far so good, as I had no intention of keeping all of them. After placing the order, something vaguely flickered across my brain that the sandals looked distantly familiar and I remembered I'd bought some similar last summer and had completely forgotten about them. After ransacking BF's house and not finding them (I'd assumed they must be there, as I couldn't recall seeing them at mine), I had a flash of inspiration about where they could be and tracked them down to my suitcase - no holidays means it's not been used since a work overnight in January 🙁 hence not seeing them. So now I have 5 new pairs coming that I don't need and I can't cancel the order! Part of my brain is going "Well, £7 for a pair of flip-flops is a good price, maybe you should keep them anyway" and part is saying "But you only have one pair of feet, and this is England - it will be raining again soon" Aaargh!!! Will report back after they've arrived!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Oh wow, you have been a busy bee when I've been away from the forum! Well done SC. Loving the £142 target, I know you are going to make it.
That is a lot of flip flops...
