Kittens sound fun - as does your countdown. Just enjoy life along the way. Are you planning to give up for good or go part time?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

good question SH - I don't know. part time might work, but my day count (although a whimsical mechanism) was based on some big picture maths, so if I go part time, I would probably have to work longer. Then giving up just as winter was arriving would be less ideal, and working through to the following spring is getting longer than I want..
But wants vs needs, and the way the world is throwing curve balls every other month its all a bit of a guess. I am lucky that nearly 1/2 or my essential (but comfortable) spends are covered by Defined pensions at that point and then 100% when we get to state pension age.I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

How long a gap do you have between the 2? SP and ER?
You could take unpaid leave to give yourself a mini sabbatical and test how you enjoy it? Then perhaps go part time for it while you finalise your decision. Or do you just want a complete break?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Love kittens/cats... we currently have 2 quite young cats. Our other older cat (only 4) was recently hit by a car and killed
.
FH... We live on a busy road and always worried about it, ironically he was killed on a nearby close which is as quiet as they come! He was quite savvy after years living on a main road, we reckon the quiet close lulled him into a false sense of security.DFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

Our main worry is that they have just started going outside and seem to like resting under our cars - however quiet your close is there's no protection from thatI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

Kittens sound lovely.
Nice to see you getting serious about doing less paid work. I don't say retirement as you seem very actively involved in many things, so work might continue in one form or another? If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Yes DIA - have started doing extra curricula things, although got to be careful not to overload.
My major plans are being more actively political, decluttering the whole house - including as many stay at home kids as possible, and making the garden more of a venue than a chore.
That should do!!I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
