Right, well I've finally got round to re-testing Comodo and here's what I found:
Comodo 2.4.18.184 consistently blocks LeakTest.
When installed with default settings and Defense+ disabled, Comodo 3.0.13.268 passes.
When installed with default settings and Defense+ enabled, it fails. I then disabled Defense+ and it passed. I re-enabled Defense+ and set the firewall to "block all", and again it passed. I restored the firewall settings and disabled Defense+ and this time it failed!
I reinstalled Comodo 3 with Defense+ enabled, chose "let me answer firewall alerts", set Defense+ to use "custom settings" with "advanced protection". Now when I run LeakTest, I am told that it is not a valid Win32 application, even when I downloaded it again!!!
What on earth's going on?
There's a thread on the Comodo messgage board too, so I've posted there as well:

Just read the link you supplied.
It certainly looks like there is some confusion about the latest version.
It defeats the object of a good fire wall if lots of tweaks and adjustments have to be made to get it to work.
Surely a firewall should work for the vast majority just by keeping the default settings.
Then tweak it as you get to know it.
I've been busy so not done anything except leave 2.4 installed.
At the weekend I helped a newbie setup his new PC, but this time I didn't suggest Comodo but put on Zone Alarm because that's what he's been used to.
I did contact Comodo support but have not heard anything at all in over a week.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Exactly! I haven't done anything (except reboot the PC) and today LeakTest is blocked and the firewall seems to be working... but when I try to read the in-built help and the whole damn thing crashes. Aaaargh!!! I think I'm going back to the previous version!0 -
On your link to the comodo forum there was some discussion about when the firewall installs it assumes everything on the PC is safe.
I'm a novice but I think they were suggesting that you should get rid of the leak test before installing a different version of the firewall, because that is why people were getting fails.today LeakTest is blocked
This seems to knock that theory.
TBH I'm disappointed in a product which I've held in high regard and recommended to several people.
After putting ZoneAlarm on my mates computer and seeing how simple it seems, I'm considering ditching Comodo and giving it a try.
I have a 2nd PC with Win98se installed with the last ZA that was compatible and that seems to repel attempted intrusions.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Chucking it down here, so thought I'd do some unscientific testing.
First I went to my old standby for free programs
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm
On Gizmos site he says that there are bugs with Comodo 3.0, but I've been trying his suggestions apart from the NetVeda Safety.Net firewall and the Jetico.
I've tried Jetico before but found it almost impossible to use, he also says that NetVeda is difficult so also rejected that one.
I tested them using the Comodo Parent Injection leak Test, as this is what Comodo say is THE test.
Used XP Home with FireFox. Removed PILT between tests so no chance of firewall assuming it was a Safe application.
1. Comodo 2,4 (already installed)- passed all 3 sections.
2. ZoneAlarm - Failed all 3 sections.
3.Kerio (didn't like the fact it changed the desktop appearance)
1st test took ages, then runtime error and PC rebooted.
2nd test - Passed
3rd test - Failed
4. Ran Search and a Registry cleaner then installed Comodo 3 (latest version).
1st test - Failed
2nd test - Nothing happened, no alerts of any kind.
3rd test - Failed
5.Online Armor - never heard of it, but was on the above link, also suggested it looked promising. Liked the way it asked you to check the startup items and programs.
This a cut down version but it Passed all 3 tests and seems very fast bearing in mind I only have 1.3ghz and 768mbRAM.
I'm going to stick with this one for the minute and try some of the other tests.
Just reading more about Online Armor, it has a Banking setting for use with online transactions.
When using the Banking setting, only sites which have been set as Trusted can be accessed therefore reducing the chances of being redirected to a spoof Login page.
This could be worth looking at if you bank online.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Is no one else worried that Comodo Personal Firewall latest (3.0) version may not be working correctly?
If the sound of the Parent Injection Link Test is putting you off, don't worry.
The test involves downloading a small program, open the folder until you see the Comodo icon, click on it, a small box opens, put some text in the box, click Test1, the firewall should flash an alert.
If you see the Comodo site with your text, the firewall has failed.
Continue with Tests 2 and 3.
These test your firewall through your browser(s).
This test can be used to check the performance of any firewall.
Ermm.... have run all 3 tests, and nothing happens?! Doesn't go to the Comodo site, nor does an alert pop up!
Can someone advise please?!0 -

Anyone please.... I'm now wondering if my firewall is working at all?!0 -
I like these tests or at least the idea behind them.
Do need other firewall tests from other manufacturers.
I use Quickheal Firewall.
Pretty effective in my opinion.
Just checked my settings.
If firewall allows browser to access internet, it fails test - Comodo.
If firewall prevents browser or program from accessing internet, it passes test - GRC.
Think I will stick to my program as I regularly delete my list of allowed to access the internet programs so programs can seek permission from me again but will raise this with my manufacturer.
I had kept this post as a useful tool hence late reply.

If I fail to thank you individually, I am sorry. Your advice was appreciated but may not have been 100% the result I was after.0 -
Sounds to me like it passes.herman2811 wrote: »Anyone please.... I'm now wondering if my firewall is working at all?!

Has anyone else noticed that if you have both Microsoft Office and Commodo installed, Commodo seems to block certain windows updates?!
Happened to me twice now, and is very annoying!0
