I'd grow some herbs, if only to liven up the dishes you make with that last packet of pasta you liberated from the supermarket. Outside my back door I've got a trough of salad of the type known as 'cut and come again': you just take a few leaves at a time and the plant survives. Have a look at Lidl, they have seeds in at the moment. Later in the year they and Aldi and other supermarkets have little plug plants and in your situation I'd go for chillies: nothing like a fresh chillie for perking up a dish.

chillis are good for indoors (they need room temperature) or herbs such as rosemary, or radishes or salad leaves. you could even take a clove of garlic & pot that up

I will be back out in the garden today. It's beautiful out there if a little frosty. Will be planting more seeds in the greenhouse.
Have a great day gardening everyone.Spend less now, work less later.2 -
Hi
I hope everyone is okay and now we all have nowhere to go apart from food shopping or work (in my case after I finish my 14 day isolation) I wonder if we'll become a nation of gardeners again?
I've spent sometime potting up a lot of plug plants that arrived this week, sown some flower seeds for the borders and have ordered Chilli plugs as my seeds haven't come through at all, the Onions, Shallots, Leeks and Tomatoes have all come through and so my Greenhouse is filling up!
Garlic has all started to show through in the large tubs I have them in and the builders have cleared their rubble from what will be my Veg patch. Going to make a start clearing it and making some raised beds. My plans are to get it all built and paths laid by the middle of April so I can move the Autumn planted onions from their pots in the Cold Frames into the ground and start moving the bedding plants out of the Greenhouse into the frames and then plant up the Tomatoes and Chillis into their final pots in the Greenhouse.
I have some more seeds to sow- Broad Beans etc, so as long as I have space I'll sow them as and when. I think I'll need to grow some in my borders, I was thinking to nice looking veg like Chard, Beetroot and mixing Runner Beans in with the Sweet Peas. Does anyone else mix veg and flowers in their borders?CRV1963- Light bulb moment Sept 15- Planning the great escape- aka retirement!1 -

We finally got the weather to do the job I've been putting off all winter. Moving the shed to the back of the garden! ( Which to be fair is only a few steps...it's a small garden..) but now we have a bit more room on the patio to sit at least. I'm hoping we'll get some warmer weather soon so mummy school as my kids are calling it, can move outside for a few lessons!
Also did the first mow of the year with my trusty push mower, better cut than any electric I've owned it'sbrilliant!
Not much actual gardening to do yet though... Still a bit cold. Hope everyone is staying inside and safe!May Grocery Challenge -£216/4001 -
Good four hours out there today, tidied up the sage a little, had a mini bonfo in the tiny incinerator I got recently, then potted up around 15 small garlic that I harvested last year - not entirely convinced they'll work, but I might get scapes if I'm lucky

Turns out they were Provence Wight ( soft neck so definitely no scapes)

Another four hours out there today, another mini bonfo and pruned the Japanese Maple. Hoping the mild weather lasts. Need to come up with some kind of rake/hook tool for my walking stick

Managed some extra gardening this weekend, seeing as being in the garden is pretty much the only outdoors time we will get for a while. Lucky we have one.
Mowed the lawn, sowed some seeds, tidied a bit. Was sunny and chilly for us too, but has now warmed up. 16 degrees here currently. So the seedlings that have popped up have been out enjoying the sun, at lunchtime washing went up, DD had a play, and I repotted the runner beans (which I clearly sowed too early! lol). I intend to bring them in again tonight, and then take them back out tomorrow and so on, now that we are at home for the forseeable.
