Got another four hours or so. Cleaned the last of the pots. Chipped the xmas tree to use as mulch around the raspberries, sorted out a tub for a small bonfire soon. Now we're pretty much ready to begin the new season. Looks like a danger of heavy frost until mid next week, so I might avoid pruning for a week or so (mulching being a far more sensible pursuit next week)

Dizzy_Ditzy .......I was gifted a wild cherry tree in memory of my brother..........As for our potatoes, Kestrel, we are desperate to finish getting the ground dug over as they are sprouting. Soil is dry enough to work, but frozen today. The spot that they are to go in was the only part of the beds that we didn't get done before the end of last year..._0

This is one thread where it would be really good to know where you all are. Then we can extend our sympathy if you are in Wales, understand if you've already got your spuds in in Cornwall or having to leave the garden as it's currently under a blanket of snow..I might shift a bit of muck today on the allotment, but definitely sow a few seeds indoors in modules for later: if we get some clear skies there might be a mild frost in spots here in Hampshire near the coast.0

I’ve done some plotting! I’ve dug over the new bed! I’ll not lie, it took a lot to make me get out of the house but I didn’t want to let two dry days pass me by 😀I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. Well done. I hate 'wasting' those gardening days too. Today was indoors for me, so decided to order some gorse in pots (I love gorse), also got to figure out some protection for my PSB

Well I did a bit but it's so cold! Moved some strawberry runners from last year to their proper places and there was no sign of vine weevil (although it might be a bit early I don't know)
Sowed some tomatoes and basil for the windowsill and potted on my alyssum and that was plenty for today I'm absolutely freezing!May Grocery Challenge -£216/4000 -
I'm more of a flower growing person but have dabbled with growing vegetables with mixed success. Carrots were a disaster, don't know what I did wrong but have decided not to try again as they are cheap enough in the shops to buy. Peas were a surprising success, felt smug when I could go out in the garden and pick a few peas to munch whilst inspecting the garden. Salad leaves were a success although I had to look out for hungry slugs and snails. I grew new potatoes in tubs but was disappointed as the yield was poor and for the amount of time and money spent having to earth them up I decided it was easier to buy in the shops even though new potatoes straight out of the ground served with sea salt and butter was divine!0

Managed another couple of hours out there mulching the wild garlic, and collecting some spent compo from last years growbags for further mulching. Also mulched around the raspberries with the last of the chipped xmas tree while Mrs Un refilled the leaf bin
