herlig said:I've taken delivery of an autumn fruiting raspberry for my kitchen garden. I was under the impression that autumn fruiting raspberries should be cut to ground level before now.
These 5 canes within one pot are a foot high and look to be springing into bud at the end.
I've also two new shoots within the pot.
A few questions:
Will these new shoots fruit come the autumn?
Will the foot high canes fruit in the summer?
Can you help me understand what to do and what to expect?Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Yesterday went to a local garden centre for a mooch around, which signalled the start of the new season for me even though it's too early in the year to be practical. Got some nice pots for outside the workshop and a bit of exercise. Today managed an hour or two out there prepping tubs of cuttings for the green bin (first collection in around three weeks). Mrs Un Got a new leaf rake yesterday which for her was a paradigm shift enabling her to make short work of the eucalyptus covered lawn. Tomorrow we're hoping to get a lot more done before the bad weather hits as mobility is still a real issue for me. Assuming I can replace the strimmer line without putting a window through in frustration, then I can forge a path down to where I can forage for stuff for ramen. Finally an apology. Some of you may remember me harping on about Society Garlic at he very start of the year. Well about two weeks ago I banished mine to the greenhouse, because it stinks of weed, and doesn't even taste that good. Might be good for keeping rats out of the compost though when it's mild enough to plant out...Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Glad to see you back Un!
I have tidied garden a little, and secured/tucked stuff into garage ahead of tomorrows storm. Also setup the peas area, and sowed some pea seeds. That's all we can do with the predicted weather.February wins: Theatre tickets1 -
Hi everyone, just found this thread. I have a small allotment that I get great joy from, Im not always successful with what I grow, but its fun trying, but had email this am that our allotments had been broken into, it looks like just one plot was targeted and the shed wrecked! I will have to go down to have a look asap just to make sure mine and next doors is OK.. Im behind this year and haven't bought my onions or potatoes but I have earmarked Monday for buying them, I have enough seeds to last this year as a dear friend bought me quite a stash for Xmas. Tomorrow Im hoping to get out into the garden for a quick tidy up as its garden bin day on Monday.
Oh roll on better weather.

Managed another few hours out there today. Didn't bother with much tidying outside. Put bricks across the greenhouse door (I would have used a bungee but it wasn't quite long enough). Cleared one of the raised beds and found some tiny carrots & beetroot> I also noticed my wild garlic is just poking a couple of inches above the soil - needs re-mulching though
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?1 -

itching to start sowing seeds for veg but so cold up north. have started to demolish old compost bins that had been in place for the last 15 years and had started to fall apart and be overrun with nettles .
plan to make new ones nearer the veg patch ..which makes sense . I'm still undecided over wether to go for allotment style veg garden with rows or repair the raised beds I have in situ

Back from my skiing holiday in Italy but as I picked up some translation work from there I'm busy today rather than sowing seeds in my new heated propogator. The garden centre recommended where I was staying still didn't have their seed stocks in but Lidl did! Borlotti Lingua di Fuoco, Peperoni Corno Rosso, Cime di Rapa all at 55 cents a packet. Spinach and Swiss Chard only 29 cents a packet! Parsley and carrots on seed tape were expensive at €1.49. I think they'll all cope with sunny 'Ampshire near the sea..3

Ciara doesn't seem to have got me yet, but there looks to have been heavy rain last night so the workshop floor was wet
today just enough to be an annoyance more than anything
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?2
