Sorry to hear about your mum Carolinerunner. I can't imagine how horrific that was on Christmas Day. I hope she is on the road to recovery. My situation sounds very like yours with regards to food shopping. I also do most of my shopping in Ald1. Its good to hear you are getting better with it so hopefully it will be the same for me with better planning.

Thank you Tessie bear! It can only improve from here! I did another £12 today so that is me done for the month at £716. I shouldn't have a problem beating that next month.

I don’t know how you do it. I am eating baked beans with potatoes, soup and porridge. And other stuff. And chocolate.
How come so many baked beans?

£16.85 in Aldi stuck mainly to my list, which meal planned up to next Thursday, who was it said to take a photo of fridge before shopping, cream cheese caught my eye, couldn`t recall any in the fridge so bought 2, now have 4, no waste though as always long dated and often use just melted in microwave for a cheats cheese sauce.
What do you do with the cream cheese? Microwave for how long?

I've just done a meal plan, from what I've already got in, n I potentially have 64 meals I can make
Am also looking for new, easy veggie recipes at the mo :D

Wow, what's on the meal plan?

Elsiepac, thank you for the recipe, i'll definitely give it a try.

I'm currently standing at £354.54/£380 with an order of £25.66 -10% discount to collect on Thursday so that should bring me in comfortably under budget. Think I'm going to aim for £370 in February, it's a shorter month and I've not got my boys for 3 days during half term. I will need to top the freezer up with meat though as I've used most of it this month. Will plan to do an inventory later in the week.

Aaaand I've just spent virtually every penny I had "left over"! Remember I wasn't going to include a pre-Brexit stock-up of the store-cupboard staples I thought might possibly be affected by supply difficulties? Well, I've just done it, and it came to half as much again as I'd allowed - i.e. £150 not £100. So I've put the excess £50 back into the monthly spend. We won't need anything else until Friday/payday now, so I'm declaring with £1.42 left!

Wondering now whether some suppliers have already leapt onto the bandwagon & increased prices in advance...?

Baggins 11 I'm baffled like you, its good to hear I'm not the only one. We used to spend around £1k/mth for 3 of us, but DH used to insist on eating out of season foods or whatever he fancied (including takeaways) once upon a time.

Suffolk Lass thanks for those tips - really helpful. Its good to hear that it also took you a little while to whittle it down, I'm feeling hopeful again.

SSaver and Suffolk L, it's super-reassuring that you have got your spends down so much and that it was a slow process (IYSWIM!). It gives me more hope that I can do the same. And thanks for the tips, some new ones to me in that list.

btw Baggins, I saw on another thread that you're self employed and cancellations mess up your income - me too :( Not stalking you obvs :rotfl:)
