Being filmed like a criminal.

Last week was doing some laps of Regents Park and afterwards popped into the Sainsbury's in Camden Town for some water. To my surprise the there are individual cameras on each of the self service checkout filming you with an LCD screen so you can see yourself. Have been told that it's the same in Asda and Tesco. Why do people put up with It? It's bad enough that they've done away wih 85% of the checkout operators now this!

Has anyone seen the cameras in an Waitrose or M&S coz when they do I'm converting to online shopping for the tiny bit I do. Yet another reason to use local independents!

It is to stop people stealing, only scan a few low cost items.
Do I need it or just want it.
  • You get filmed in the independent shops as well, and often just walking around the street.
Is it really just now you've become aware of it?

CCTV is everywhere in this country. There is an interesting civil liberties discussion to be had, but it's a lot more wide ranging and has been going on for a long time.
  • doesn't bother me being filmed ,as I don't misbehave or rob anyone ,if there were anysort of violence or robbery going on you would be glad that the criminals can be caught. There is so much CCTV around that I really don't notice it at all

I'm amazed at how much filming goes on anywhere. My son is staying with us, he was telling us about the neighbours Christmas lights and then showed them to us using his security camera attached to his front door bell.

I looked up at the ceiling and counted a further 36 cameras.

Did anyone watch "The Capture" recently?

I know it's fiction (well I hope so) but it does make you think.

Maybe it will be (or is already) possible.

I really don't care a hoot about how many times Im captured on camera

You Mr S are a Londoner, you live and work in central London, your every step is being monitored. Your bus, tube and train journeys, you are filmed entering the, stations, sitting on the bus, walking down Kensington High Street, every step of every journey you are being filmed

So why are you worrying about a checkout camera?

CCTV everywhere doesn't worry me, least of all the ones at the self service checkouts.

I've nothing to hide, so it doesn't bother me.
