Supermarket self serve packing.

Going to be short and sweet on this one. I'd think i probably wouldn't be in the minority but this is MSE so that one immediately gets turned on its head and becomes the opposite of the real world.....
People who go to the self serve in supermarkets, bring their own bag, scan their stuff (lots of it), pay, and then proceed to pack everything in to their bags....slowly....when it's busy.
Should be beaten around the head with their shopping bag!!
Is it really so hard to put the bag on the scales and then put your stuff in the bags after you scan it?

I use the self service tills in my local Morrisons. This is when I am buying just a few basket items not my main shop. I never put my bag on the counter as I’ve learned by experience that the till will immediately stop working and demand an assistant!
They recently updated the tills but they still have the same problem.0 -
I don't put my own bag on the scale as it's very sensitive, even when I've told the machine I'm using my own bag it doesn't like the weight and I then need to wait for staff approval to proceed.0

I don't know what's wrong with your machines but i've shopped at all the main supermarkets with the exception of Tesco and have never ever had a problem putting the bag on first.
I've had trouble when i've put something on and its been a light item (packet of paracetamol or even lighter for example) but this can apply with or without a bag. As far as putting bags on first, i've never had a problem. That goes for multiple Sainsbury's stores i've been in - different areas, different countries, multiple Asda's in different areas in different countries, one local Morrison's. Big supermarkets, smaller ones. Never had a problem.0 -
Actually come to think of it, i have also shopped at a small Tesco as i remember it was the only place i could find a certain pack of ice lollies i wanted in the summer. Didn't have any bother there either.0

:DI don't pack as I go, scan first, pack after. But then I don't take a month of Sundays to do it!
I've had one sided arguments with the machines about "unexpected item in the bagging area" before now, but the machine recording just won't listen to reason. :rotfl:Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -
The other problem with the self-service tills is that they don't have any good way of holding your bag open.
So you dump the bag in the bagging area, hit "Start" and scan the first item. At that precise moment your bag flops closed. Any attempt to move it again will result in "unexpected item in bagging area" :mad:If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
So "pack your bags as you go along", then when a "fault " come up with the scanning and you need the staff to sort the problem means you then unpack ALL your goods adding to the time before others can get to the checkout. At least with the goods loose in the "out tray" staff can quickly see all you have bought.0

If you're local, i would be happy to show you howSo "pack your bags as you go along", then when a "fault " come up with the scanning and you need the staff to sort the problem means you then unpack ALL your goods adding to the time before others can get to the checkout.
When i've had a 'fault' - for example, the item doesn't weigh much (9 times out of 10 this will be the trigger for a 'fault' i encounter) the staff member on hand just comes over, takes a look at what has triggered the error, sees it in my bag, gives the machine a beep and away i go again. No need to unpack a thing.0 -

That's exactly what has happened to me every time the weight of the goods doesn't match what the computer expects.
It's normally on a Sunday and with a newspaper because of all of the added junk they tend to put in them.0
