Tesco pay at pump

Here is what VISA say will happen. No mention of a temporary £1 charge.
http://visa.co.uk/pay-with-visa/pay-at-pump.htmlWith our new payment system, the pump sends a funds-check, or approval request, to your bank before you begin filling your tank, which could be up to £100 (although some petrol retailers may request a lower amount). This is to check that you have sufficient funds in your account to cover the cost of your fuel.
As soon as you’ve finished filling up, the petrol pump will immediately notify your bank of the actual value of the petrol you’ve purchased. That means your bank is able to update your balance, giving you greater control of your budget.
That is the £1. or what each retailer deems they want to check with,
Any check amount will still show against your available funds.
I have seen both £1 & full amount sat as Authorisations. Which then both drop off once the full amount debits.
Bank is not able to remove authorisations. That is retailers responsibility. So they need to update their systems.
Can't believe Asda are still taking the max amount. Maybe they have a lot of issues with declined full amounts.Life in the slow lane0 -
This is what I alluded to earlier

This is what Sainsbury's say and do which pretty much explains it.

The Asda pumps I use show you on the screen they pre authorise £1.00.0 -

If you look at the comments in the Telegraph piece they are mostly from 2018 and the last in Feb 2019. So I think these relate to the previous attempt by Visa/Mastercard to get the UK to adopt the max amount system.
Sadly the sainsburys link does not have a date.
Not quite sure how mastercard think that retailers will update the pumps. So that if £99 is declined they will try a lower amount?
Seems to be a recipe for security checks and blocked cards, when they try several times in seconds with lower amounts....
I think that people will get used to it over time. You just have to make allowances and make sure that either you have enough funds in your account. Or you never run too low on fuel that you can not get home.
Lets face it Europe has been doing this for years.Life in the slow lane0 -

If you read the whole post it is clear what "This" is
True, but as we work in GBP & not Euro's. We can get away with doing something the same way as we always have :rotfl:Life in the slow lane0 -
In conclusion - What is the bottom line?0

I filled up yesterday at Sainsburys and paid at the pump
Its currently showing as a £1 pending transaction, this always happens then after a few days it'll change to the correct amount0 -
I use Tesco pay at pump a lot, as others have said the £1 pending authorisation is normal, with the full amount debiting a few days later.
I did fill up once recently and have the £1 authorisation drop off a couple of days later but no payment was taken. It took an annoying 3 weeks before they debited the full amount off my card.0
