Amazon Missing Parcel

Just had a problem with an Amazon delivery. I was expecting a parcel last weekend and when I checked the tracking it said delivered 15 Dec. When I realised it had not been delivered I contacted Amazon via chat and they said give it a couple of days it may still be on the van even though it was showing delivered on the tracking website.

A couple of days later it still not arrived so I contacted Amazon that told me they would investigate it and I should contact them in 72 hours.

I contacted them after 72 hrs and they basically said its been delivered so report it to the Police. I asked them if they could show me who signed for it or I heard some carriers take photos of houses they deliver to but it fell on deaf ears and they have basically sticking to contact the Police. Surely its Amazon/ Couriers responsibility if its never got to my premises.

I don't want to contact the Police because its only £20 but it looks like they think something dishonest has happened.
I live right out in the country in a small semi cottage with one near neighbour the rest is pretty much open country, we always make sure someone is at home if we are waiting for parcels. I deleted my Amazon account but just want to vent my anger.

Surely it makes it more difficult for you to claim a refund if you've deleted your account? I can't see the point of reporting it to the police, as at best it's "lost property", with no evidence of a crime having taken place.
  • Why did you delete your account?

They are responsible for the item until you have it in your possession. You don't have it, so they should refund you. You might also try contacting your card provider. As davidmcn says, you've probably made it more difficult to do all of this now you no longer have an account.

Why didn't you just ask them who the courier was so you could get in touch with them directly to find out if they maybe left it in a "safe place" if your home is as remote as you say it is then it wouldn't be unusual for couriers to find an open shed, an upturned empty plant pot, or a storage box to put a parcel in

I think probably with hindsight I should not have deleted my account so quickly but you can't delete your own account you have to phone, email, or online chat with Amazon, at the time I was a bit angry because it has happened to me before and I thought while they are online I will do it now. Their words were we delivered it so someone must have intercepted it which is a bit unlikely considering I live in the back of beyond. Personally because I live about 5 miles out in the lonely countryside A They delivered it to the wrong house B Didn't bother because at this time of a year while they are busy it probably means at least 45 mins to get out to my place, find it, deliver the parcel and make the trip back. None of it my fault.

We checked the one neighbour and searched everywhere before reporting the missing parcel. Amazon asked for 72 hrs to investigate and came back with " the courier said its been delivered so if you have not got it then it must have been intercepted so is a crime so report to the Police". I asked to see who signed for it, or someone told me these Amazon couriers now take photos where they deliver photos but they stuck to its a crime report it. It was only worth £20 so it seemed more trouble to keep fighting it. I'm just angry because I know I haven't got it and its not my fault. Has far as I'm concerned Amazon or the Courier are to blame because surely its their responsibility until I sign for it. But it looks like me that will lose out.

Had a same day delivery that did not turn up despite showing as delivered. Called Amazon and was asked to wait 72 hours.
Waited and it had not turned up. Called back and they offered to either resend or refund. Took refund as had already ordered something else.
    No mention of police.
Always find you get a better response if you are polite and not rant at them when things go wrong.

Certainly not aware of them taking pictures of deliveries as lot of us on our street order via them and have never seen any of them taking pictures.

Same story myself as born again. FYI in my case the product was over £100, no mention of the police. It was to my work address (Reception, CCTV, etc), which I said I could ask to be provided if they wish, they chose not to ask for it.

Only variance I can think of is that apparently a year or so ago, a load of amazon parcels were found dumped behind a nearby building. It may be the delivery person was up to no good.

Ps. Amazon Logistics in my case FYI.

  • I thought about claiming on credit card but I think the minimum start amount you can claim is something like a £100. It was only £20 so a lot of hassle for the return but just angry at Amazons attitude.

born again I didn't rant at them I was polite right through until they told me to contact the Police but I did have a similar problem about a year ago with Amazon which they dealt with no problem ( both were genuine ) so I think they just labelled me has dishonest because it happened a second time in a year. I think its just because its so remote where I live that parcels may go to wrong houses, house never gets found or if the driver is really busy probably can't be bothered.Perhaps I should have kept my account and pushed them harder to provide some kind of evidence they delivered it. You live and learn.
