Apparently you and I are aliens though. Those at MSE HQ seem to think it's perfectly acceptable for pedestrians to have no common sense & walk around with their eyes shut. You description reads as if you zoomed past her 6 feet in front of her
Nowhere did i say ... this stupid woman Pd me off so bad that i floored it right next to her to give her a fright.
Quite the opposite. I said more than once how i was confused about her reaction. What the way i had taken the turn, i wouldn't expect her to do what she did. I certainly wouldn't have & i have a short enough fuse as it is.
Now, let's test that earlier theory out ..... Tokyo is a place in Japan. Go on, i know you're itching to (and i don't necessarily mean you).0 -

Nobody's said anything about whether the peds were in the right or not. Since they aren't posting here, that's not really relevant...0 -
I read it as you turned into the junction behind her ... i.e. she'd already crossed the lane into which you were turning.0

No no no. That's what you want it to read because then it fits in with the trend of pulling apart everything that i post.

Like I said, I don't get it.
If you turned into a junction in perfect safety with no bother to anyone, and some random woman started ranting and waving, like the cat lady on the simpsons, you wouldn't bother to post;)
I'm reading that when turning off a road into a junction, you somehow came into conflict with a pedestrian crossing that junction. Whether this was because she is a lunatic who shouts at cars, or she expected you to stop so she could cross, or she was playing on her phone and had no idea where she was and reacted out of shock isn't clear to me.
As drivers, the responsibility is ours to compensate for/anticipate the unsafe/careless/witlessly stupid/downright dangerous actions of other road users be they on foot, horseback, cyclists or driving motorised vehicles. It doesn't make them right, but as we can't control them we have to allow for them, and move on.
I could post every single time I go out in the car or on foot about the people who reverse off their drives at high speed without looking, wander across the road without looking, ride their pushbikes off the kerb into the road, stop in the middle of the road for no reason, swerve from lane to lane, bounce their car onto the pavement right next to me, drive 10 yards forwards, stop and then fling their doors open blocking the whole pavement etc...., but I don't because I take no notice, vary very rarely am I surprised by the lunacy on the roads.
So something about this incident is bugging you, more than a random encounter with cat lady.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I usually give way to pedestrians even when I have so called 'right of way'.
If someone is about to cross a road into which I am about to turn, it costs me next to nothing to pause and allow them to proceed.
Far better that than demand my 'right of way' and possibly injure or kill someone and have to explain my actions in court and live with the guilt that my impatience to save a few seconds has had such unpleasant consequences.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -

You're off point. It's not necessarily this incident alone. I've said that before but then i suppose i really shouldn't expect people to pay attention any more as they haven't been doing so for so long. They just cherry pick what they want to suit their own agenda.
Its people in general. As someone else pointed out - those who walk around with their head in their phones, not even looking. This was just another case.
Me personally, if i was the one crossing, i would see ... X car is about to turn in to my path, Y car is likely stopping them but will pass soon, nobody else is looking to turn in so i'll let X car turn and THEN i'll walk.
That's what i'd have done...but then i'm in the minority as i don't stick my head in my phone as i cross junctions.
I also don't cross junctions right at the very end. I walk a bit further down so that if any car turns in quick, they wont hit me. It gives me more time to get out of the way.
But then i'm aware of what's around me and don't like to be put at risk of being hit. Like i said, i'm frequently in the minority it seems.0 -
My concern would be that the pedestrian may be deaf or partial sighted ,or just momentarily distracted,I always allow them to cross, after al l am sitting down in a warm carDeepest Kent. 4.6kW Growatt inverter, solar i boost+ 5.9kW Solar Edge

My thought process would be
X car is focussing on the traffic on the main road. He/she won't think for an instant about pedestrians crossing, and will try and shoot into the junction as soon as there is even a dangerously slight gap in the oncoming traffic. I'd best wait...
Comes to the same thing, but I'm expecting incompetence- at the worst I can be pleasantly surprisedI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Comes to the same thing,
I would imagine common sense dictating that the chances of you getting hurt inside a car in that situation are slim. Chances of you getting hurt on foot i would argue are not high, certainly not as high as some overreacting people would like to argue, but if you put yourself in front of a vehicle then the likelihood goes up massively.
So as someone on foot, i'd simply let others get on their way. That's just my way.
I see it at work in an environment with machinery. I work with people in their late teens & see the attitude of ME ME ME. Everything is me first to the point it's just crazy. People pushing their way in yet they can't get where they want to be because someone else is there, but instead of waiting & giving that person room to get out they're constantly edging forward.
It's the same when they're on foot around machinery. They still go around with the ME ME ME mentality. Me first.
Whereas when i'm the one on foot, i see all this machinery around me that could crush me or cut me in two. I'm very happy to let it go before me before i carry on my way.
It's one of those situations though - if i step out in front of it, it'll be my fault for being an idiot, whereas if i was the one on the machine it'd be my fault for not being observant.
Moral of the story is it's always my fault regardless of absolutely anything.0
