PIP - you are such a good business advisor and although MrBC made the main, I laid the table with tartan napkins and made the pud so tips should be shared equally.
enjoyed snug Sunday today and an added bonus is that MrBC completed a task that's been hanging around for, how to politely say this .... hanging around for a few months. Took him 20 minutes 😉
we had soup and Welsh rarebit for tea as we liked it so much when we made it last week for cosy Friday. Used up last of the fridge bottom veggies and better still has helped with my hopes for avgrocery budget underspend this month.
I'm knitting a fisherman's rib style jumper for littlest grandson's birthday next month. Front and back are done so I'm starting a sleeve tonight. I think I've got enough time to get it done. I'm always better at getting on with a task when there's a deadline. Better get a cup of tea and start casting on.

Thanks @lucielle. Grandson loves being snug and cosy (just like me) so I think the jumper will be just right. I'm also making him a crochet blanket for the car, just big enough to tuck round his legs. I wanted to try a ripple effect stitch so I thought a smallish blanket would be a good practice piece.
enjoyed my Monday morning dancercise - Jim the cat was in residence but scooted out pretty damn quick when he saw a coach of school kids arriving for their swimming lessons.
tax bill paid on line today. Took it as close to the deadline day as I dared. Tried to be sanguine about handing the money over and reminded myself that the capital gains tax liability was incurred as part of a bigger picture plan. Anyway it's paid now and hopefully it's the biggest one off payment I'll ever need to make.
made katsu sauce this afternoon and served with 2 breaded chicken fillets from the freezer so a tiny bit more space created.
it's the last grocery shop of the month tomorrow. Really wanting to have a surplus this month to move across into the repair and replace pot.4 -
I love a fisherman style jumper, if you accidentally make it in a size 14 I can give it a home 😁
Hurrah for the sighting of Jim from the Gym, well done on dancercise
And extra well done on the big tax paying. Better for it to be funding hospitals and schools than funding grasping relatives!

PIP - the jumper could stretch a bit but probably can't be reviewed as "fits larger than aged 3 - would suit size 14"
thanks SH - jumper is looking good so far and a 3 year old is probably not going to be too harsh a critic.
22 lengths swum this morning and I think it's getting easier to do the extra 2 lengths especially with the lure of a cup of tea afterwards.
The end of the month is approaching and most budget pots are looking like they might yield a surplus to go into the repair/replace pot. I really would like to get it to £500 this month! I thought I'd done my last grocery shop and was trying to pat myself on the back for an underspend and then when I got home I realised - shock/horror - that I'd forgotten cat food 🙀. The beast will be ok til Thursday but I'm going to have to buy a box of his luxury, fish (never meat) in gravy (never jelly) food.4 -
So impressed with people who can produce things like jumpers 🙂1

@Alchemilla - thank you. I know my limitations with knitting but I'm ok with simple patterns. I also reassure myself that a 3 year old won't have very high expectations of his nan's knitting!
another week has flown by and January is nearly over.MSE wins include
sorting out a new broadband and mobile phone deal which will save me £200 over the next 12 months. Never ceases to surprise me that companies suddenly have great deals and offers when you are about to leave.
I got an item from freecycle which is exactly what DD needed. I've given loads away on the site but never received anything. And I'm super pleased that during January I've managed to scoop up all my odds and ends of money and add them to my Repair and Replace pot which has grown from £121 to reach its target of £500. Top ups have come from surveys, Chase round up, Chase rewards, £50 from energy credit refund, underspend from groceries and eating out as well as regular tilly tidies. February focus is going to be the Dental, optician, vet pot. I've only got £71 in there currently and want to top it up to £500.00. I probably won't be able to do it all in one month but will throw what I can at it.3
