I can identify with 'plodding through' a find to use it up & save money. It does sometimes feel like a 'plod', doesn't it, when it isn't a product you would choose, or choose now, if it is something you did buy in the past but have moved on from. I'm quite looking forward to buying some cheerful dish cloth cotton & knitting a nice new set of funky dishcloths. The reason I'm not currently doing this is that I am still using up the big pile of brand new flannels I brought back with me when we were clearing out my parents' house. Mum was a very keen crafter & used to sell loads of her lovely makes at church & community craft fairs. She had just stocked up on flannels for making into reindeer & various other creatures containing a bar of soap. I can't bear waste, so I brought them back with me to use as dish cloths, cleaning cloths, etc, but 5 years later, I still haven't worked my way through the pile! I've never found that ACTUAL dish cloths last this long. I thought I'd got the very last one of them pressed into use but then discovered another one in the linen cupboard. Hopefully this really is the final one. Although, given that this year's project is to build up all 10 of our Savings Pots, which involves only buying essentials in those categories, perhaps I shouldn't be moaning about the longevity of household items.
F2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

Thank you @foxgloves - I have re-framed my plodding through the ginormous washing liquid bottle to hooray at least 1 month of saving on the washing capsules and can I eek it out for 2 months?
Your mum sounds very clever with her flannel creations. We were definitely the soap, water and flannel generation so it made me smile when I overheard a mum in a coffee shop explaining to her friends her eco friendly idea that you could bring a flannel from home, put some water on it and lo and behold you could use the wet flannel to wash your child's face and hands. An improvement on my mum spitting on a hanky to remove dirt from my face when I was little 🥴
@EssexHebridean - how exciting! Alderney sounds amazing. We have booked the same cottage on Guernsey that we stayed in last year and will be there for the 80th Liberation Day anniversary celebrations.
a very nice week has flown by - cue the "I don't know how I had time to go to work" cliche.
we went to a comedy show at the start of the week which was funny in the first half and not funny in the second part. However, it was a local venue and we both agreed the laughs that we did have helped brighten up a January evening. Blackcats Corporation Inc had its delayed company meal out on Thursday and I can now declare the 2024 Christmas pot is empty and closed.
I had a delightful cooking afternoon on Wednesday whilst listening to the end of my reading group book. I made red Thai curry paste from scratch and the ingredients smelt gorgeous as I was chopping and mincing them. I used the paste to make Chiangmai noodles which were yummy.
enjoying Fredagsyms (cosy Friday) today. We had roast chicken dinner tonight which felt very decadent for a Friday.
hope everyone is safe from the storm.

Excellent work from Blackcats Co Inc this Christmas, I'm glad the flexible work sharing space with Pip Ltd very Ltd was useful in harnessing blue sky thinking vis-à-vis secret santa, and look forward to perusing the memoranda re your company's employee wellbeing retention schemes for the forthcoming quarters
Glad there were some laughs at the comedy night, and even if these things are dire you've still supported a venue and helped the acts on their journey of honing their skills

Any laughs is a huge win.

I used to really really hate that & can still smell the make up from it touching her before me. This is over 70 years ago. Some things you just never forget. An improvement on my mum spitting on a hanky to remove dirt from my face when I was little 🥴

Sorry Jwil on the work upsets - hopefully things will settle soon. I keep trying to tell myself that too as I'm irate about what's happening to some...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

PIP - we are currently still at the emergent straw man stage of defining the granularity of our strategic intent relating to employee engagement and reward. When we have more specificity and impact and reach measures I will let you know.the spit on the hanky face wiping was indeed horrid. My mum always accompanied it with "come here you mucky pup".
a lovely sunny day here so we went to our local football team's match. It's a small club, average attendance is about 400 and it has a nice, old fashioned atmosphere. We boosted the coffers by buying 10 losing raffle tickets and 2 teas and 2 kitkats from the tea hut. Team won 3 2.
This weekend's eat at home treat is gastro pub themed. We chose a quirky, meaningless pub name The Lawnmower and Sausage and the Burns Night special is Aberdeen Angus steak with whiskey cream sauce, the ubiquitous triple cooked chips with wilted spinach and cherry tomatoes. Followed by Cranachan. We reckon we could charge ourselves £30 each for a 2 course meal.
so money has been spent and fun is being had.3 -
You're mugging yourselves at £30 each! Sounds wonderful, hope you thoroughly enjoy. Don't forget to leave a decent tip that the staff of The Lawnmower and Sausage can put towards a nice meal and drink tomorrow 😁2
